If you love FPS games (or any game for that matter), these are some can't miss titles to check out in 2020.

Ever since I played games like DOOM and Halo as a kid, first-person shooters have become one of my favorite types of games.

More than just shooters, these games have evolved to incorporate RPG, Action/Adventure, and many other elements into the first-person genre to create a truly immersive feeling.

An FPS fan will know to keep an eye out for these games, but if you like any other genre you might appreciate checking out some of these great titles set for 2020.

10. Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 (PS4, XBO, PC)

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 gameplay

Over a decade since the first Vampire: The Masquerade was released, the sequel takes place in the 21st century Seattle underworld filled with vampires, demons, werewolves, and other supernatural creatures.
As a vampire, you must feed to keep your monstrous form in check, while also not being caught indulging your unsavory habits.

The player will choose to join 1 of 5 clans and 1 of 3 vampiric disciplines, allowing you powers such as summoning bats, levitating objects, or concealing yourself as a ghostly mist.

RPG style decision-making and story altering choices will be part of the core gameplay, and the neo-gothic aesthetic of Masquerade is complimented by beautiful 2020 graphics.

9. System Shock(PS4, XBO, PC)

System Shock gameplay

In payment for your help, you are given a powerful neural implant and placed into a recovery coma, however, upon waking you discover the entire crew has been killed and the station has been commandeered by the AI. You must fight through SHODAN’s robots, mutated crew members, puzzles and traps before it uses its weapons to destroy earth’s major cities; can you stop the rogue AI in time?

The ship is dotted with other seemingly comatose patients being "treated" by turned crewmembers; can they be saved?

Use various weapons to defend yourself against turned crewmembers; use melee weapons like pipes and wrenches, or futuristic weapons such as energy pistols.

8. Atomic Heart (PS4, XBO, PC)

Atomic Heart gameplay

In an alternate history of the Cold War era, you are a KGB agent sent by the Soviet Union to find out why a robotic facility has suddenly fallen silent.

Robots, cyborgs, holograms, and internet-like communication technologies already exist in this reality, and you must scavenge to survive in the hostiles. Using Unreal Engine 4, Atomic Heart looks to be one of the more beautiful and intriguing FPS’s coming out of 2020.

Exploring to find recipes for crafting weapons will be standard practice, and make your life a lot easier when you find yourself in unexpected encounters.

So far, enemies look to range from robotic monstrosities to cybernetic humanoids to mutated/undead zombie types: all of which create their own unique style of engagement.

7. Serious Sam 4: Planet Badass (PS4, XBO, PC)

Serious Sam 4: Planet Badass gameplay

If you can’t tell by the title, the game takes place on planet badass, a place where you gotta BE a badass just to survive, and Sam has never been more serious.

Team up with various companions from past games and fight familiar enemies like Kamikazes as well as newcomers to the series just waiting to be blown up!

Serious Sam’s iconic gunplay will be the biggest draw of the game as well as blasting hordes of enemies from your motorcycle or running them over with a combine; break out the shotgun and grenade launcher, Serious Sam is back!

With 80s-style terminator aesthetics, Sam enters the scene exactly how you’d expect: on his chopper, shotgun in hand, like a badass.

Staying true to its roots: Serious Sam 4 promises more of the classic bloody, gory gunplay while adding new stuff to kill...and kill with.

6. Ready Or Not (PC)

Ready Or Not gameplay

Ready Or Not is a tactical shooter akin to Rainbow Six and SWAT, with an added emphasis on non-violent alternatives to fighting a criminal underworld. Ready Or Not takes place in a not-too-distant dystopian future America where corruption is (more) rife than ever before.

You play as a member of an elite police squad tasked with apprehending criminals and uncovering deeper scandal to fight the corruption that has overtaken your city.

Not a one-man team: Squad-based tactics are the lynchpin of successful missions, and behind every door lies the potential for not only yours but your team’s health and safety.

Hands up! Ready Or Not emphasizes accurate tactical approach and the use of non-violent apprehension, making planning out your moves beforehand essential to a successful mission.

5. Halo: Infinite (PC, XBO)

Check out the Halo: Infinite trailer

Master Chief is back in the 6th installment of the Sci-Fi FPS that dominated the early 2000s: Halo.

Set in the 26th century, the Halo universe is composed of several major players including humans, the alien amalgam called "the covenant", the flood, and the robotic "forerunner" species, as well as several giant ring worlds known as "halos".

After the events of 4 and 5, Chief has been floating around in space with only life support systems functioning, but once rebooted, he's ready to do what he does best, save the frickin’ world.

Deactivated: Moments after being found floating through space, an offline Masterchief is brought aboard a lifeless shuttle and soon rebooted by the lone crew member.

The big reveal: while not much else has been shown, we know that immediately following his rescue, it is shown that the shuttle is floating just outside a partially destroyed Halo.

4. Rainbow Six: Quarantine (PS4, XBO, PC)

Check out the Rainbow Six: Quarantine trailer

In the tactical shooter that defined a genre, Rainbow Six Quarantine gives us a taste of what is sure to be the successor of the popular "outbreak" mode in Siege.

In Rainbow Six you play as a member of a tactical strike squad, and traditionally, you are tasked with clearing various zones from terrorists, extremists, and other ne’er-do-wells.

Siege broke new grounds with its immensely popular “outbreak” mode, where you went from clearing out terrorists to just trying to survive against a zombie outbreak; Quarantine, while not much has been shown yet, looks to be the much-anticipated official game that fans of Outbreak have been waiting for.

(RSS: Outbreak shown above) Like Outbreak, we can expect the team back and ready clear and contain.

(RSS: Outbreak shown above) RS: Quarantine showed several creatures encroaching on the wounded soldier, so expect the cast of Outbreak to show up, including the Smasher.

3. Dying Light 2 (PS4, XBO, PC)

Check out Dying Light 2 trailer

Set 15 years after the first Dying Light, the world and the people in it have been infected with a vicious epidemic, turning them into lumbering, brain-dead zombies by day and agile, voracious hunters by night.

The protagonist can make use of custom weapons, equipment, and parkour-style moves to explore the city and fight, and use superhuman powers at night due to his own infection.

Dying Light 1 was praised for its functional design and fluid movement mechanics, and Dying Light 2 aims to improve upon its predecessor with updated visuals, new gadgets, and immersive story.

Give this guy a hand: bats and guns are great, but sometimes you just gotta wire a high voltage battery into a meat cleaver.

The freaks come out at night! The infected become much more animated and aggressive at night, but you can create artificial light using devices like the ultraviolet flare to buy time.

2. DOOM Eternal (PS4, XBO, PC, Switch, Stadia)

Check out DOOM Eternal gameplay

6 years after the events of Doom 3, earth has (you guessed it) been overrun with demons; you the Doomslayer, must save the world from certain annihilation- hey, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it!

The doom storyline gets straight to the point- big demons, big guns, and lots and lots of blood and gore.

The all-new “invasion” mode allows enemies to invade the player's world as demons, and with new mechanics such as blowing off individual body parts of demons, equipment like flame armor, and serrated arm-blades for exotic and spectacular “glory kills”, slaughtering invading demons has never been more fun.

A myriad of foes await you, use every weapon in your arsenal to defeat both familiar and unfamiliar, like zombies and the Pain Elemental.

Big foes require big guns: Enemies run the gamut from the smallest to the biggest foes, so break out the BMFG, because the bigger they are...

1. Cyberpunk 2077 (PS4, XBO, PC, Stadia)

Check out Cyberpunk 2077 gameplay

Without a doubt, Cyberpunk 2077 has been one of the most anticipated games of 2020.

From the developers of the acclaimed Witcher series, this fully fleshed out open-world GTA-esque future looks to be rife with character customization, gripping gunplay, and immersive RPG elements.

One of the most intriguing features of the game will be the body augmentation, from cloaking, scanning for enemy weaknesses, and attaching blades or firearms directly to your body; Get ready for a futuristic Deus Ex noir bathed in vaporwave aesthetics...oh, and of course, Keannu Reeves.

Cyberpunk 2077 boasts a sprawling futuristic metropolis filled with neon skylines, mercenary gangs, and cybernetic enhancements on practically everyone you encounter.

When the trailer premiered at E3, Keannu Reeves made a surprise cameo and half the audience had heart attacks. His role is as yet unknown but regardless it will be interesting to see how he plays into the story.
