New World has released its latest update, with the main feature of the patch they released yesterday being a framework for character transfers between worlds in New World.

According to update 1.0.3 patch notes, the groundwork for character transfers between worlds, or servers has been laid. However, New World has decided not to implement character transfers immediately, but rather to monitor the transfer framework and test its stability.

Once stability and functionality at scale are confirmed they will start with an 8-hour character transfer test period on the Utopia world in South East AP.

In the event that everything runs smoothly, they will then make character transfers available globally.

There are a few key points to note regarding character transfers in New World.

In order to transfer a character, players will have to be logged in as that character. They must then leave their company, close all buy and sell orders in the Trading Post, and claim a transfer token in the menu. At this point, they will be able to transfer their character to another world.

For those that are worried about losing all their stuff and progress upon transfer, don’t be. Players will keep the progression level, inventory and storage, currency, houses, decorations, and quest progress for the character that they transfer.

However, friends lists are world-bound and thus will not transfer.

Besides the character transfer framework, there were a significant number of bug fixes and improvements made, the full details of which can be found in the patch notes.
