Here Are 10 Important, Yet Interesting Facts You Should Know About Dark Souls 3

FromSoftware’s latest entry in the critically acclaimed and fan-beloved Dark Souls series is soon to be upon us. Here’s a list of 10 things you’d want to know about it, to keep you warm until the game hits the shelves.

1. The Series’ Creator Is Back With A Vengeance

An unfortunate soul, bent by the game's difficulty, presses onward

Back when it first came out, Dark Souls 2 seemed to have everything, yet steered away from what we wanted it to give. It was an amazing open-world game that featured a high difficulty, but everything from the challenge to the world itself, felt stapled on rather than seamlessly integrated.

The fans complained and From Software listened: The sequel will return to the original director’s vision of a perfectly crafted nightmare.

2. The Storyline Will Be Made Clearer

An ancient castle, seconds before crumbling to dust

Part of the fun of Dark Souls has always lied in figuring out what the hell is going on. Unfortunately for a lot of us spoiled gamers, this design decision came at the cost of cut-scenes.

Compared to the original, which only had an opening cinematic, introductions for some bosses, and two short ending sequences, the latest installment will feature over an hour of movie-like footage, as well as a complex and interpretative story.

We will have our cake, and eat it too.

3. Everything Will Be Made More Brutal

One of the many new enemies we will have to face and die against

We've been promised a hellish world where death awaits behind every corner. Your enemies, challenging even when alone, will swarm around you in legions.

Treading carefully and adapting to every bad turn of events will be an absolute necessity for making any kind of progress.

Move slowly, react quickly, and you may yet survive. For a while.

4. Combat Has Been Refined

You'd be angry too if you had to deal with the main character over and over again

The player's undead avatar will be more customizable and powerful than ever before. The tortured soul we get to control this time will be significantly faster and nimbler than his predecessors.

Every single piece of newly available weaponry will now feature its own unique special attack, enabling us to truly personalize our own death dealer.

5. The World Will Be Larger And More Consistent

The setting of Dark Souls III will be beautiful and seemlessly integrated

Returning to the original vision, the latest entry in the series will once again feel more like a single undying land, rather than a collection of unrelated locales.

The game will take place on a lower number of locations than its predecessor, but they will all be larger and much more complex.

6. The Game Is Set To Re-define "Apocalyptic"

A rag-tag group of unfortunates try to navigate the horrors of the new world, with limited results

How do you make a game about being a hopeless undead even darker? By setting it at the end of the world, of course.

Previous entries in the series were all set in worn, desolate places, where everything that moves is out to kill you - And it often succeeds.

The latest chapter in the saga is here to show us what happens when those nightmarish locales become even worse. The end result will likely be beyond horrifying.

7. Invasions Will Be More Visceral

Player invasions will, of course, still be a major feature. We wouldn't want to be able go about our in-game business unhindered by bloodthirsty intruders, right?

This time, however, players will have to perform a special sacrifice ritual in order to step into another's world. Details are unclear, but it is likely that this will require a body and a place to burn it. Happy hunting.

8. You Will Return To a Familiar Place

Drangleic Castle has seen better days

Judging from what we can see from the teaser, we will be able to traverse at least one location we've visited before - Drangleic Castle.

Ravaged by time and an apparent (un)natural disaster, the place will certainly house its share of old and new. As is usual, we will come with questions, and it will answer with danger. In the Souls series however, life threats speak louder than anything else.

9. It Will End The Series As We Know It

No need to cry. It is a transition, not the end

Prior to the title's reveal, rumors about Dark Souls III being the final entry in a trilogy used to circulate about. Thankfully, the developers have recently put an end to these, stating that the upcoming title will only mark the end of the current series, as opposed to that of the entire franchise.

The new release will mark a turning point, if you will. For good or bad, Souls games will never be the same again. What exactly this will mean remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: Any sequels we might see will be drastically different in either gameplay or atmosphere.

10. Release Date Is Set To Early 2016.

Supposedly it will be released simultaneously on all platforms. Hopefully we won't have to wait 'till we all turn undead.

Dark Souls III is due to grace the shelves with its unholy presence somewhere in early 2016.

All we can do in the meantime is hope for it to be at least as exciting as its predecessor. That and praise the sun.
