What are crops? They are one of the many forms of tasks you can partake in Disney’s Dreamlight Valley and turn used in cooking, increasing your friendship with your favorite Disney characters, and most importantly of all helping you to earn from the start to have a fully established valley. But which crops are best and which ones aren’t fully worth it? This list will help you figure out which ones to go for and which ones to hold off on unless you wish to grow them.

1. Carrots

Where it all begins

Carrots are the crop that starts you off in the game and helps you to grow and build up your valley however you wish to design, create, and enjoy it. But to get there we all have to start at the beginning and carrots are that start. The very first biome you gain access to is the meadow, where after you help out Goofy and get his stall up and running one of the first crop seeds available to you is carrots. With this crop and its native biome to start with you can build up your star coins either by selling the crop at Goofy’s stall or by turning them into food to sell that way.

The other benefit to carrots is that in the same biome you buy them are rabbits you can tame and turn into companions who will follow you all over your valley after you play a fun game of follow the rabbit once you are done with the game you can feed them a carrot and gain their affection. The more you do this the greater their affection for you gets until you earn their companionship.

2. Cucumber

The best crop to use in between and like an iconic Ice Queen we all know and love the cold of its native biome doesn’t bother this crop either.

This crop's appeal is in the price for the effort. For 40 coins a seed pack, you get 159 coins back for every cucumber you sell at Goofy’s stall or turn around and make into recipes that you can again either sell or use to make friends with your valley inhabitants. The additional perk to this vegetable is there are a few quests mainly recipes that call on the use of this vegetable to help complete them so not only is it lucrative and helpful to get you further along your game it also helps you to complete any tasks the game needs the vegetable for.

All in all for a completionist like myself having this vegetable on hand if and when I need it is always a big plus for me, something to keep in mind for others as they get their valley’s up and running. Another pro tip to remember is outside of growing it in the Plateau the best area to grow them quickly if you haven’t unlocked the potions to help with this process is in the Frosted Heights.

3. Cotton

Nothing like an iconic old-school crop that much like its real-life counterpart provides many uses in the game as it does in real life.

This crop is indeed a very old school one that can be obtained in the Sunlit Plateau and while sadly in terms of profit yield, it's not the highest of the crops available to you it does provide you help in other areas and those in turn can benefit you financially as well as progressively through the game. With this crop, you can have full fields of cotton in 25 minutes so it's very helpful to get yourself further into the game.

The best and most rewarding part of cotton is the similar but different part it plays in the game of its fellow crops. While the other crops can be used in food recipes, this crop is essential to building a lot of crafting items and the material to make processed cotton to use in more crafting recipes. With those crafted items they also can be used to make a profit, decorate your valley, and help you to complete tasks. This way you're saving the money you would have to use to buy the material and simply harvest it yourself to be used in your crafting.

4. Chili Pepper

Help add some spice to your valley

This crop is another one available to you in the sunlit plateau as with the other crops in this game it is found in its native biome and grows the best in said biome unless you have access to the potion to help your watering can. The best part is you only need to repair Goofy’s stall once to gain access to this spicy crop. Its profit is only 75 coins per crop you sell but it still is a great way to help in the intermediate area and help you to unlock more of the sunlit plateau.

As with all crops in this game, it also has the additional bonus of being used in a variety of recipes that you can also sell for a profit in Remy’s restaurant and in turn give higher friendships with the citizens of your valley or give them to people as gifts. The other perk to the food is that it can be used to restore your energy. A small pro tip to the area you can use to harvest and grow this crop is it comes with its very own campfire and grill so you can harvest your crops, cook them at the grill, and sell or save them for later quests or gifts. This is a plus to consider with this crop.

5. Wheat

The Golden Beginning of Gardening in the game

One of the first tasks given to you is to clear away the Plaza so you can get started on your game. With this clearing the first seeds you get ahold of is wheat. This crop is not only a tutorial crop for how to get started with the game, it plays a core role in quite a few quests including story-based ones. One such example is after you meet and befriend our Disney King himself Mickey one of the recipes he turns over to you is crackers. And of course, we all know what makes crackers, don’t we? But it's not just in this recipe wheat is by far the biggest and most needed staple for almost half the recipes in your game from pastries and pies to more savory dishes like pasta.

So much is made with the use of this crop that it can’t be ignored or overlooked, profit is a slow but steady burner for sure. It is the fastest-growing crop in the game and only gives you 2-star coins for every harvest. But because of how fast it grows you can have a steady turnaround with it. And again with all the recipes needed in those dishes, it can also turn a profit, keep your energy up for more farming or other tasks and of course can make great gifts for your citizens in your valley. Now as I stated once already it has uses in a lot of areas including core story plots one such story plot calls on you to grow wheat to complete that part of the story so another thing to bear in mind with this crop.

6. Okra

Crop of the Swampy Glades of Trust

Now this crop is native to another and different biome, the Glade of Trust. Upon gaining access to this biome you start clearing away those horrible night thorns and this crop's seeds are readily available for you to use to build your Glad however you want to. As with the other crops growing it in the Glades will ensure it grows quickly which is quite helpful as this one has a bit of a growing period so any way to speed that up is always helpful.

It also has its own set of recipes to be used to help you improve your relationship with the citizens of the valley or turn around and sell. Its profit isn’t all that great but the bonus of you being able to gather its seeds for free by clearing away the thorns is a great plus so at least its return is greater than the coins put into it.

7. Onion

Every crop has a part in the layers of this game

As with Wheat, this crop provides the needed ingredient for several of the dishes used in this game and as such can’t be overlooked no matter how simple it seems. The Crop itself is a bit harder to get ahold of in the Forest of Valor as it shares the spotlight with several others in this biome but is no less worth it than the others for 50-star coins you can reap the reward of 170-star coin profit for every harvest. I made use of this crop during my run-through of this game and still use it even now for all the recipes it requires.

As stated not just for profit, this crop is also a crucial part of numerous recipes. One of them is an iconic recipe for our Little Chef. That’s right Ratatouille the dish his movie is named after, calls for onion, and quite often it gets called up to be made along with other dishes. The call for this crop so again do not dismiss this crop as not being important for it plays a role in the game as all the other crops do.

8. Eggplant

Putting in your Star Coins Worth

One of the core pro tips I learned in this game is to go for the biggest to reap the most reward. Eggplant is by far the most expensive of the crops to purchase in Frosted Heights. It is also worth it. For the price of 95 star coins a seed pack, purchase as much as you can planting them then selling the harvest will reward you with 308 star coins for each eggplant.

Now it also has a 3-hour wait time for it to finish growing but between planting them in their native biome to speed this up and using the watering can potion this issue is hardly that big of a problem. The additional bonus of not just the crop itself but the recipes it goes into is also rewarding. As such, profiting from the harvest or the dishes you make from it rewards you in full despite it being the most expensive one to purchase.

9. Canola

My Go-to after Carrots to get my star coins going

As stated before, why it's a bit harder to get ahold of onion seeds because you're more than likely to run into this crop's seeds while removing night thorns from the Forest of Valor. As such this crop as the very game itself is telling you is the best to go for in between your carrot crops to the King Crop if you gather the seeds from the night thorns it makes it all the more rewarding for it is free to obtain and in turn, you gain a 109 star coin profit.

This alone shows the benefit of using this crop to make a nice profit and to get your forest up and running as well as make use of for future areas that having all the star coins you need will be a big benefit to. As with the rest of the crops in the game, it also has uses in your recipes since as everyone knows Canola is used to make oil and that plays a decent part in numerous recipes. One such recipe that it helps to make is Tiana’s signature Beignets so I for one would highly advise making sure you grow and harvest this crop to sell and use in recipes.

10. Pumpkin

The King Crop of Dreamlight Valley

After I first found out about this crop I didn’t hesitate to restart my game to plan accordingly to obtain it. And it is indeed something planned out as it takes a bit to reach this crop as you have to unlock the Sunlit Plateau before you can reach the Pumpkin native biome the Forgotten Land. It is with this fact alone that charting your course with carrots as it is the very first one you get outside of wheat and working your way to the other options helps you to not only get to but obtain the seeds for this crop.

The price for it is 275 per seed hence why building up your star coins to obtain it is a must but its reward is 664 in star coins and with a big enough farm of these the turnaround speaks for itself. As with the Canola and Eggplants, it has the biggest growing time of them all with four hours but between growing it in the Forgotten Lands and using your watering can potion that is not an issue. Along with the crop as it is you have the recipes to make use of to sell and to help improve your relationships with the rest of the Valley citizens. The other bonus is the Pumpkins are also used in crafting recipes as much as they are used in cooking recipes. With the more spooky setting of the Forgotten Lands, it's the perfect way to let your spooky scary side out and have lots of creative and lucrative fun with this crop.

And there you have it between the profit the crop alone provides along with the dishes and crafting items this crop can make. It is worth the price and wait to plant as many of these as you can and grow your valley with the rewards of your efforts. This game offers such a wide range of crops to use and enjoy so even with these being the best ones to use for both profit crafting and cooking the other crops should not be ignored either.  As with the Onions, every crop plays a part and the game makes sure every crop gets to be put to use for your valley. So take your time, use these top ten but never forget the rest of your garden options as a result.
