The Clown, also known as Jeffrey Hawk is one of the earlier released killers that has been introduced in June 2018. There has been a controversy that the Clown was rated as one of the weakest Killers in the game; however, this is not completely true, especially with the possible add-ons that he has which can make the killer one of the deadliest in the game, this could be an example of the add-on 'Red-Head's Pinkie finger', which leads the survivors to be exposed once hit with the bottle, slowing down their movement and therefore going for an easy hit.

Never underestimate the clown, he can be full of surprises, nonetheless, let's look at his best top 5 builds for the Clown:

5. Save Enduring for Last Build

Dead by Daylight gameplay by zStormP

Save Enduring for Last Build is a build which allows the basic perks such as enduring, and sloppy butcher to dominate the chasing category, and with these perks, it would master the finding of the survivor by finding greater pools of blood with the sloppy butcher and reducing the pallet stuns, making catching up on the survivor faster, especially with the additional save the best for the last which is very useful for attacking, and great whilst using the clown, as with the potion it would decrease the escape speed of the survivor, and at the same time, allow the clown to catch up faster, making it a great build in the chasing category.

What Save Enduring for Last Build Excels In:

  • With the combination of Sloppy Butcher and Enduring, chasing is much easier for the killer as there will be more time saved to chase the survivor, in the aspects of less time being stunned by a pallet and bigger pools of blood for finding survivors easier.
  • The perk Jolt will be advantageous in terms of generator regression as the killer is mainly good for chasing and therefore no need to interact with the generators, whilst having the main concentration on the survivors.

Build details & Perks:

  • Sloppy Butcher: Wounds inflicted by Basic Attacks cause Survivors to suffer from the Haemorrhage and Mangled Status Effect: Increases the Bleeding frequency by 50/75/100 %. Increases the Regression rate at which partial Healing Progression is lost through Haemorrhage by 15/20/25 %. Both Status Effects are removed once the Survivor is fully healed.
  • Enduring: Reduces Pallet Stun duration by 40/45/50 %. Enduring has no effect while carrying a Survivor.
  • Jolt: When you put a Survivor into the Dying State with your Basic Attack, all Generators within 32 metres of you instantly explode and start regressing. Applies an immediate 6/7/8 % Progression penalty.
  • Save the best for last: Each time you hit a Survivor other than your Obsession with a Basic Attack, Save the Best for Last gains 1 Token, up to a maximum of 8 Tokens: Gain a stack-able 5 % Cool-down reduction on successful attacks per Token, up to a maximum of 40 %. Each time you hit your Obsession with a Basic Attack, Save the Best for Last loses 4/3/2 Tokens. When the Obsession is sacrificed or killed, you can neither gain nor lose any more Tokens.

4. Pop the Brutal Strength Build

Dead by Daylight gameplay by RedsGamingGears

Pop the Brutal Strength expertise in generators, moreover, the effectiveness and speed of the generators, where the killer can kick and regress generators much faster using the perk 'brutal strength', saving rest of the time for the chasing of the survivors, and of course, on the other hand, the perk is very effective when patrolling generators, for instance when the layout is a three close trio-gen, therefore with no option for the survivors but risking their movements on repairing the generators piece by piece, which concludes with the rest of build  focusing on the regression of the generators, making it a great build overall.

What Pop the Brutal Strength Build Excels In:

  • With the perks pop goes the weasel and brutal strength, you have the ability to kick generators much faster and allow for a faster momentum of regression, very useful in critical times.
  • With the combination of jolt and pop goes the weasel, you will have the ability to not only manually regress generators but also automatically once a survivor is put into a dying state, having the advantage of generator regression and more time saved.

Build details & Perks:

  • Pop goes the weasel: After hooking a Survivor, Pop Goes the Weasel activates for the next 35/40/45 seconds: The next Generator you damage instantly loses -20 % of its current Progression. Regular Generator Regression applies afterwards and Pop Goes the Weasel deactivates.
  • Brutal Strength: Increases the Action speed of breaking Pallets and Breakable Walls, and damaging Generators by 10/15/20 %.

3. The Furious Clown Build

Dead by Daylight gameplay by D3AD Plays

The Furious Clown Build creates a sense of anger for the killer, in other words, no mercy for the survivors. The build concludes with great perks that are well suited for both generators and chasing category, especially with the perk, spirit fury, where you have the possibility of avoiding stun damage every two pallets, therefore saving a lot of time and getting the hit survivor rather than being stunned. With the rest of the trio perks left in the build, with corrupt intervention, pop goes the weasel and scourge, they mainly focus on the generator regression and slowing down the game as much as possible, again, similarly to pop the brutal strength build; however, much more powerful in terms of these aspects.

What The Furious Clown Build Excels In:

  • With spirit fury, you will have an advantage in chasing with the survivor, where if there are too many pallets dropped the survivors will eventually lead into a trap and either get injured or put into a dying state.
  • With the combination of pop goes the weasel and scourge hook: pain resonance, you will be able to see the generator that has exploded with the most progress, and therefore able to pop the generator again leading to complete regression.

Build details & Perks:

  • Spirit Fury: After breaking 4/3/2 Pallets, the next time you are stunned by a Pallet, The Entity will instantly break it. You still suffer from the Stun penalty.
  • Corrupt Intervention: At the start of the Trial, the 3 Generators located farthest from you are blocked by The Entity for 80/100/120 seconds. Corrupt Intervention deactivates prematurely once the first Survivor is put into the Dying State
  • Pop goes the weasel: After hooking a Survivor, Pop Goes the Weasel activates for the next 35/40/45 seconds: The next Generator you damage instantly loses -20 % of its current Progression. Regular Generator Regression applies afterwards and Pop Goes the Weasel deactivates.
  • Scourge Hook: Pain Resonance: At the start of the Trial, 4 random Hooks are changed into Scourge Hooks: The Auras of Scourge Hooks are revealed to you in white. Each time a Survivor is hooked on a Scourge Hook, the following effects apply: The Generator with the most Progression explodes, instantly losing 9/12/15 % of its Progression and starting to regress. Survivors repairing that Generator will scream, but not reveal their location.

2. The Almighty Hex Collector Build

Dead by Daylight gameplay by D3AD Plays

The Almighty Hex Collector is a build as you can see filled with hexes, the clown must be a collector himself. Anyways, having hexes in the build has its own positive and negative aspects, whereas on the negative sector, having hexes can brutally ruin your build reputation as survivors can get rid of these hex totems easily on the map, and therefore, once all the hexes are removed, in this build, it is just left with corrupt intervention which is only active for 120 seconds at the beginning of the game, which really puts you with no perks and no build.

However, the build consists of Hex: Haunted grounds which would make every survivor exposed, and Hex: Undying which gives the hexes another chance, in conclusion making this build a powerful top 2 build in this list.

What The Almighty Hex Collector Build Excels In:

  • The trio hex combination gives out its best in the build, with a combination of death-like situations for survivors which could lead to a great loss in the game.
  • With the corrupt intervention, you have the headstart to see the survivors, and therefore a great perspective on seeing where the hexes are and therefore protecting them as much as possible.

Build details & Perks:

  • Hex: Devour Hope: The false hope of Survivors ignites your hunger. Each time a Survivor is rescued from a Hook when you are at least 24 metres away, Hex: Devour Hope receives 1 Token: 2 Tokens: 10 seconds after hooking a Survivor, gain a 3/4/5 % Haste Status Effect for the next 10 seconds. 3 Tokens: Survivors suffer permanently from the Exposed Status Effect. 5 Tokens: You are granted the ability to kill all Survivors by your own hand. The Hex effects persist until its Hex Totem is cleansed.
  • Hex: Undying: The Auras of Survivors within 2/3/4 metres of any Dull Totem are revealed to you. When another Perk's Hex Totem is cleansed or blessed, its Hex is transferred to the Hex: Undying Totem, including any accumulated Tokens, disabling Hex: Undying instead. The Hex effects persist until its Hex Totem is cleansed.
  • Hex: Haunted Grounds: Two trapped Hex Totems will spawn in the Trial Grounds. When either Hex Totem is cleansed or blessed, all Survivors suffer from the Exposed Status Effect for 40/50/60 seconds. The second Hex Totem will immediately turn into a Dull Totem.
  • Corrupt Intervention: At the start of the Trial, the 3 Generators located farthest from you are blocked by The Entity for 80/100/120 seconds. Corrupt Intervention deactivates prematurely once the first Survivor is put into the Dying State

1. The All-rounder Pop and Boozle Build

Dead by Daylight gameplay by RedsGamingGears

The All-rounder Pop and Boozle is the most toxic build I have seen for the clown in many ways. First of all, the build starts off with Devour Hope, which in this case it is a great perk to have as the clown because if the survivor was to cleanse the hex totem, you could easily distract him and remove the cleansing progress by simply throwing the bottle of potion, even halfway across the map if the aim is good, and therefore through the progress of the game if the hex is still active, it can become unbelievably powerful, with the last ability to kill survivors by hand.

Nonetheless, the build also consists of the perk bamboozle which is very useful for closing chases, and the perks pop goes the weasel and jolt for generator regression, with an overall conclusion making this build one of the best in terms of universal aspects where all these perks can be used in all situations in the game.

What The All-rounder Pop and Boozle Build Excel In:

  • Hex: Devour Hope is considered to be one of the most toxic and powerful perks in the game and therefore highly advantageous when wanting to kill survivors by hand and therefore leading to a faster win in the game.
  • With bamboozle, you have the upper hand in chasing where you will be able to use the window blocking ability creating a trap for the survivors with nowhere to go except run straight ahead.

  • Bamboozle: Performing a Vault action is 5/10/15 % faster and calls upon The Entity to block that Vault location for Survivors for 8/12/16 seconds. Only one Vault location may be blocked this way at any given time. Bamboozle does not affect Pallets.
  • Jolt: When you put a Survivor into the Dying State with your Basic Attack, all Generators within 32 metres of you instantly explode and start regressing. Applies an immediate 6/7/8 % Progression penalty.
