The Iconic survival horror

The iconic franchise "Resident Evil" is one of the most unique "Survival horror games", if not the most remarkable one.  Sold more than 125 million units since the first game was created by "Shinji Mikami" and "Tokuro Fujiwara" and released for PlayStation in 1996.

But what makes this franchise so unique to sell such a huge number of units? Come aboard and let's sail together across the "Resident Evil" universe, to round up the top 10 best "Resident Evil" games on PC.

10. Resident Evil: 5

Available on: PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PC, Switch

As I'm beginning my list with this one, you must know that "Resident Evil 5" is a huge change in the franchise. While the first four games focused on survival horror aspects, this one tended to be a "Gears of War" game with few elements from the previous games.

I started the franchise by playing "Resident Evil 4", and I was amazed by the atmosphere, gameplay, and survival elements. After that, I was excited about the fifth one, but I was surprised by the straight-up action, fire powers, bright environments, and Michael bay's explosions scenes.

If you are searching for a good action game with few survival horror elements; then this one is definitely for you. The game also introduces for the first time the coop mode which will make it more fun to play with a partner.

9. Resident Evil: 6

Available on: PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PC, Switch

"Resident Evil 6" tried to satisfy old fans and new ones attracted by the gorgeous action mechanics of "Resident Evil 5" by adding three different campaigns.

Capcom thought it would solve the identity issue of the franchise, but did it succeed? Let's check this out together.

The first campaign of "Leon S. Kennedy" is focused on horror elements to satisfy the old-school fans. However, regardless of the incredible atmosphere, good story base, and funny gameplay, Leon's campaign is still far from the original core of the franchise.

The original franchise focused on complex but attractive puzzles, survival elements, and shocking moments. On the contrary, Leon's campaign tended to be very easy, adding new mechanics that made the game even easier, like dodging, sliding, and more.

The Other two campaigns (Chris Red Field and Jake) focused on heavy action that surpassed "RE5", with tanks, heavily armored soldiers, and more "Gears of Wars' moments.

The game brought the coop mode again to the series, which is still one of the best elements of the game. "Resident Evil 6" failed to satisfy old fans, but it was fun for newcomers, and I think you should try it out yourself and make the final judge.

8. Resident Evil: Revelations 2

Available on: PS3, PS4, PS Vita, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PC, Switch

Following the successful first part comes another refresh to the franchise, with a coop mode, a unique story with astonishing graphics, and a dark atmosphere.

Revelations 2 is a new hope for the old hardcore fans, and it is definitely one of the best survival horror games. As you can see, Capcom finally remembered the ingredients of survival horror and eventually managed to create a solid sequel to the original one.

When you play "Resident Evil: Revelations 2", you will understand how this franchise could have evolved if Capcom managed to take a different path earlier. But, too late is better than never.

7. Resident Evil: Revelations

Available on: Nintendo 3DS, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Wii U, Switch

Big changes sometimes come from small effects (Butterfly effect), by which small changes in initial conditions can lead to large-scale and unpredictable variations in the future state of the system.

When "Resident Evil Revelations" was published on the Nintendo 3DS, fans were surprised by how atmospheric and original the game is.

The success of the game forced Capcom to make a remaster on other consoles by the high demand from the fans, and that was a reminder to Capcom of what the franchise truly needs.

This small survival horror game managed to set the franchise again on course, which will lead after that to the awesome remakes of the old-school games.

6. Resident Evil 7

Available on: PS4, Xbox One, PC, Stadia

"Resident Evil 7" is a reboot of the franchise. The game changed entirely, by replacing for the first time the third-person perspective with First-person, to limit your view of the surroundings, to deliver you the right dose of horror and jump scares.

As you read, the game returned to the horror, survival elements again, facing the unknown in unexpected areas in this terrifying mansion, trying to solve many puzzles, and at the same time, trying not to get a heart attack from the Baker family.

RE7 succeeded in freaking me out, you can find "The Baker family" in every corner of this mansion. But what is more unique is that the game returned finally to the old-school puzzles.

You will have to solve puzzles to get into the next area while at the same time trying to escape from the family, it's the hardest thing I have ever seen since the "Nemesis" in "Resident Evil 3".

"Resident Evil 7" achieved what "RE 6" couldn't even though it's different from usual "Resident Evil" games, there is no doubt that it's what the franchise needed.

5. Resident Evil: Code Veronica X

Available on: Dreamcast, PS2, PS3, Dreamcast, Xbox 360

I remember the first day I played "Code Veronica X" for the first time when I was just a kid, it was the first classic camera-angle "RE" game I played in my life.

I spent more than nine hours trying to solve complex Einstein puzzles in the first area, and it was a pain to my little brain as a kid, after I surpassed myself and succeeded in every puzzle like a true genius.

After a few minutes, I fought a boss without any ammunition! There was no escape from this fight as it was on an airplane! So I was forced to start the game again to save ammo for this boss, which means that I solved every puzzle over again.

The game was very different from "Resident Evil 4", which forced me to do some research on the franchise, and I discovered that "Code Veronica X" was the first step to 3D "RE" games after the era of the first PlayStation ended. Capcom developed this game to take the franchise a step forward to the future, with real-time 3D environments, complex but unique puzzles, and good gameplay.

The game was the closure of the first chapter of the franchise, and there is no doubt that "Code Veronica" is one of the best "RE" games

4. Resident Evil: (Remake)

Available on: GameCube, Wii, Switch, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PC

The first "Resident Evil" game, was a quantum leap in survival horror games, the game managed to create a huge fan base and encouraged Capcom to create more sequels.

It was a masterpiece, but the remake was even better, introducing terrifying threats, amazing graphics, and improved combat mechanics. You will feel the true meaning of survival horror playing "Resident Evil" remake.

It takes you through hard times, difficult impressive puzzles, and tough boss fights, with low resources that need careful management, or you will regret every bullet you wasted.

If you don't believe me, then memorize that I defeated the final boss with my knife, because I was out of ammunition. The first game is by far the hardest one, it will take much effort from you to solve every puzzle, and to kill zombies with more than nine bullets for each one.

The game will force you to focus on every bullet you fire because one bullet can save you from restarting the game all over again because you can't beat every boss with your knife like I did with the final boss.

3. Resident Evil 3: Nemesis

Available on: PS1, Dreamcast, GameCube, PS4, Xbox One, PC

"Resident Evil 3: Nemesis" is the most remarkable "RE" game, and one of the best rare survival horror games ever made.

The improved combat mechanics, mobility, and Nemesis is not only the striking features of "RE3", but also the unusual monstrosity of the streets of "Racoon City" made it more fatal, cruel, and terrifying to deal with.

The "Nemesis" is one of the most famous figures in the survival horror genre, providing "RE3" with new horror elements that inspired a lot of horror game designers after that. The Nemesis could appear anywhere, anytime, without knocking on the door like every good kid.

You will be terrified by his appearance every time, and the worst problem is that you can't kill him, you just need to run and figure out where to go. If you can't play the classic one, you should give the remake a try

2. Resident Evil 2: (Both versions)

Available on: PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, PC

The original "Resident Evil 2" was very unique and remarkable, but the remake was absolutely gorgeous, a masterpiece with high graphics, amazing gameplay, and recreation of the nostalgic moments from the original game.

The game takes us to the first mission of "Leon S. Kennedy" trying to uncover the secrets of the virus that turned his city into zombies. Starting from the unique atmosphere, geometrical designs where every place is connected to the other in a professional way, ending with the great survival elements.

This remake is a rebirth of the survival horror genre, it makes you think about how the franchise could have been better if Capcom followed exactly "Shinji Mikami"s"' recipient in "Resident Evil 4".

No to mention hearing Mr. X's footsteps while you're trying to solve a puzzle, then hearing a door opening, and... You should see it by yourself. If you are a fan of survival horror games, you should absolutely try this one.

1. Resident Evil 4

Available on: GameCube, PS2, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Switch, PC, iOS, Android

"Resident Evil 4" is the most unique change in the franchise, moving from the camera angle perspective to the third person, with the most remarkable atmosphere and theme of all "RE" games. "Resident Evil 4" takes us to a remote village in Spain with our hero "Lion S. Kennedy" who is trying to rescue the daughter of the president of the U.S.A who was kidnaped by a religious cult.

The village, the old gothic castles, the QTE, the new gameplay mechanics, and the unique boss fights, made this game for a lot of people, the finest horror survival game in the history of the genre.

Moving between the villages while fighting insane villagers shouting at you with unknown Spanish words was remarkable, also the gothic castles and the unique boss fights like the giant crocodile in the sea, the giant, the sneaky creature that could kill you from anywhere, and of course the great Jack Krauser, all of that made this game a masterpiece.

Too bad the game changed to the worst after this one, but no doubt "RE4" will remain the best "RE" game for most of the fans. Moving between the villages while fighting insane villagers shouting at you with unknown Spanish words was remarkable.

What do you think about this list? Do you think "Resident Evil 4" is the best? Tell us in the comments.
