When Can We Really Expect Fallout 5 To Be Released?

With Fallout 4 being released in Nov 2015, when can we expect to play Fallout 5?

Bethesda’s Action rpg Fallout 4 was released back in November of 2015 and already fans and gaming sites alike are speculating about when the next installment of the series will be released.

It’s an interesting quirk about the pace of technology and culture when products are released with increased frequency, but consumers still demand more in both product and speed of production.

This can be largely attributed to a circle of pressure by fans on developers. When developers can release more content faster, fans raise their standards and expect developers to release it even faster the next time.

Does our interest and expectation of another Fallout game reflect a stagnating entertainment industry?

One of the more common complaints about both movies and games today is the perceived lack of original ideas and the loss of individual creativity over a product.

We can see this with various film franchises such as Star Wars and the Marvel movies being lined up years in advance and the endless production of sequels, remakes and reboots. And much the same can be said for games as well, we’ve come to expect an steady stream of sequels to established franchises from Mario to Call of Duty and it pains me to realize the same is happening to certain series I love such as Dark Souls (update, with the release of the ringed City DLC for Dark Souls III, creator Hidetaka Miyazaki said this was likely the end of the Souls series) and Fallout.

So when should we expect fallout 5?

It seems the first news about the next Fallout installment has come in the form of a leak by Fallout 4 voice actor Ryan Alosio where he stated Fallout 5 was in development. Exactly when the next Fallout title is slated for release is unknown at this point, my best guess if I had to estimate I would say sometime between now and 2020.

On an interesting note there have been some rumors that the next Fallout title may work similar to Fallout New Vegas as in a spinoff title. Still, as to when the next game will be released all I can say is, have patience gentle gamer.

Patience gamers, good things come to those who wait…and hold developers to high standards.

Should the gaming industry risk profit for originality?

While I am a Fallout fan, I would say that I would prefer to see the series reach an end at some point than for the series to be squeezed harder and harder and lose its soul in the process.

On the other hand, while indie developers can make surprise original hits such as the retro-rpg Undertale, I would love to see AAA publishers and developers work on more original ideas such as Overwatch, and take risks rather than play it safe by releasing the same titles over and over again.
