Everyone loves fantasy realms. There’s the dragons, the monsters, the archenemy, the damsel in distress, and of course the hero. RPGs are the way to go if you’re looking for some fantasy fun.

Fantasy RPGS are probably the most popular ones out there too. Who wouldn’t want to play as Geralt and stab your way through a horde of monsters.

For those of you who can make up your minds of which RPG to play, here’s a list of the 11 best Fantasy RPGs.

11. Divinity Original Sin 2

The game takes place centuries after the first Divinity. Bishop Alexandar the Innocent declares all sorcerers to be criminals, so a party of sorcerers embark on a quest to defeat him.

After choosing your race and origin story you venture off with a group of friends to defeat your enemies. While traveling across the scenic environment, in a style similar to many MMOs, you can fight, sneak past, or outwit your enemies.

You can choose your race, stats, and origin story as well as recruit up to three companions to assist you. The companions can be playable characters in multiplayer modes as well. You can also choose which characters like and hate you. You can establish friendship, romantic relationships, and bitter enemies with characters and how you interact with them.

The game also features a competitive multiplayer mode where you can battle your friends in  an arena map.

10. Tyranny

Tyranny takes place on Terratus, where technology is transitioning into the Iron Age. Overlord Kyros has been campaigning to take over Terratus and is nearly finished. That is when a rebellion breaks out in the final place to conquer.

Your take charge as a Fatebinder and have been tasked by Kyros to either quell the rebellion or be destroyed with everyone else in the area. You can recruit a number of companions and explore areas in an attempt to end this rebellion or play against Kyros.

9.Baldur’s Gate 2

Baldur’s Gate is essentially Dungeons and Dragons as a video game, so it could be considered the ultimate RPG.

Baldur’s Gate 2 takes place in the Forgotten Realms, which is similar to a medieval Earth, and mainly in Amn, a country on the subcontinent of Faerun.

You play as the offspring of Bhaal, the God of Murder. Bhaal was slain by an adventurer named Cyric, but he foresaw his death and left behind him a number of children. When these children were slain by heroes, he would then be rerborn.

In the game you can choose to be good or evil, and go on an adventure with your companions. This game will take some time though. With just the main plot there’s an estimate of 50 to 60 hours of game play.

8.Mount & Blade 2

Mount & Blade 2 is a Medieval War Game. Your goal is to battle your enemies, defend your cities, and conquer as much land as you can.

Before the battle you strategize and decide where your troops and armaments will be placed. In battle you play in a third or first person view as the commander, participating in the battle while you defend against or attack your enemy.

This strategy heavy game seems to have little role play but it’s perfect for those who prefer the battle over the story in RPGs.

7.Darkest Dungeon

In Darkest Dungeon you are informed that you’ve inherited and estate from a relative who has unearthed portals to dark dimensions and released evil creatures onto the world. The relative took his own life rather than deal with his mistake and as the new owner, it is up to recruit adventurers and lead expeditions to clear the estate of these monsters. After rallying your troops you must clear four areas before you can finally clear the darkest part and make sure none of these monsters return ever again.

The game is strategy based as it is your job to recruit heroes, train them, heal them, and enhance their equipment. As an added note, in the game perma-death is present. Once you lose a hero, they are gone forever.

6.Shadow of Mordor & Shadow of War

In Shadow of Mordor you play as a ranger named Talion who seeks revenge on Sauron after the death of his family. You travel across Mordor to enact your revenge while having a number of missions along the way.

The game itself is an open world game so you can explore vast lands while on your journey. The events in the story take place between The Hobbit and The Lord of the rings, making it an interesting canon.

The upcoming Shadow of War is the sequel to Shadow of Mordor. It plays in the same open rpg in third person view as it’s predecessor. In this game you continue to play as Talion and your quest is to build an army to bring down and defeat Sauron once and for all.

5.Torment: Tides of Numenera

Torment : Tides of Numenera is a thematic re-imagination of Plancescape torment. In Torment, you are known as The Last Castoff, the last vessel for a man that has discovered a way to leave a body and be reborn in the next. Once he leaves a body, a new consciousness takes his place. You are the new consciousness.

The man has attracted the attention of “The Sorrow” who seeks to destroy him and his creations that have cheated death. Yet he has secluded himself as he has lived longer and longer. It’s your job to find your master before you are both are destroyed.

In the game you explore the Ninth world, discover other castoffs, and make friends and enemies along the way.

4.Skyrim

Skyrim is of course one of the most popular RPGs out there. A lot of people have heard about Skyrim, even if they don’t know what the game is about.

Skyrim is an open world RPG where you can customize your character. Your character has been sentenced to death, and as you are being prepared for your execution, the Dragon Alduin destroys the city. You manage to escape the dragon attack, only to come upon a town with another dragon problem.

You defeat the dragon and absorb the soul of it, becoming what is called a Dragonborn. After defeating this dragon you seek the aid of others on your quest to defeat Alduin and save the city.

3.The Witcher 3

In the third game of the series, you play as Geralt of Rivia a monster hunter, or Witcher, on a quest to save his daughter from the “Wild Hunt.” The Wild Hunt is an otherworldly force that is determined to capture her and to use her powers.

Through your choices and interactions with NPCs you can discover one of the multiple endings of the game.

2. Pillars of Eternity & Pillars of Eternity 2

The game takes place in the world of Eora, in the nation of Dyrwood. In Dyrwood the infants born become hollowborn, or born without a soul. While this event occurs, the protagonists powers awaken and he discovers he’s a Watcher, or someone who can see past lives and interact with souls.

While exploring the game it is your mission to find out what caused your awakening and solve the hollowborn problem.

In Pillars of Eternity 2 you continue playing as the Watcher. In this direct sequel, the god of light and rebirth, Eothas, awakens under the stronghold of the Watcher. This awakening destroys the stronghold and leaves the Watcher near death.

This brings the watcher to go on another adventure seeking answers. To gain answers to his questions the seeker travels to the Deadfire Archipelago in pursuit of Eothas.

1.Dark Souls 3

In the game the First fire that created the Age of Fire is going out. When this fire goes out and Age of Darkness claims the lands, evil beasts take over. In order to keep the flame going, lords and heroes sacrifice themselves, but Prince Lothric has deserted his post to do so.

The Ashen one rises and must bring the Lords of Cinder together to rekindle the flame and prevent the Age of Darkness that is coming.
