With Deadpool 2 hitting the big screen on May 18th, 2018, it’s high time we take a look at who will be joining him. What we do know is that he is creating a new “squad” of heroes, which he has named the X-Force. Let’s meet our heroes, shall we?

We won’t talk too long about Deadpool himself, as you likely somewhat remember him. He was in that one movie a few years back…. What was it called? Oh yeah. Deadpool.

Wade “Deadpool” Wilson (played, of course, by the beautiful Ryan Reynolds in the movies) has one real superpower, the ability to heal. In the comics, he is given this power through experiments done with Wolverine’s DNA. In the movie, it is through torture meant to bring out the “best” parts of possible mutants. Or kill people. It seems either is an acceptable outcome.

The torture, unfortunately, also ruined his boyish good looks. As a mercenary, and an all-around badass, Deadpool is incredibly endowed with… martial arts knowledge. What did you think I was going to say?

He is a skilled assassin, adept at wielding most weapons (especially his favored double sword technique) and able to withstand more pain and anguish than the normal human. He also rarely tires, as his healing abilities translate into a lack of muscle fatigue.

Colossus

Colossus is another hero we met in the first movie. He was the big, Russian, silver guy. The silver is actually more like an organic steel, which he can transform himself into at will. While in this form, he can lift excessive amounts of weight, up to 75 tons, and his “skin” is almost impenetrable.

Piotr “Colossus” Rasputin (Voiced by Stefan Kapicic) is also a pacifist, as much as he can be, and will only hurt people if he has to. He is rather “cultured,” being fluent in quite a few languages (besides his native Russian and English), and a very talented painter.

Negasonic Teenage Warhead

Negasonic Teenage Warhead (played by Brianna Hildebrand) is a special case for the Deadpool movies. In the comic books, she is a telepath with some premonition powers. She was killed off fairly quickly.

The movies take her character and give it a hugely different spin. So huge, in fact, that the people in charge at 20th Century Fox (Deadpool’s parent company) made a deal with Marvel Studios. In this deal, they were able to change the characters powers completely, and in return, they gave Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe the rights to use Ego the Living Planet in the second Guardians of the Galaxy.

Her character now has some awesome powers. Besides being a teenage punk that fascinates and infuriates Deadpool (a fun power in and of itself), she also has the power to, basically, become a warhead. Using a form of telekinetic power, she can detonate herself and creat an atomic blast. Technically part of the X-Men, not the X-Force team (along with Colossus) they end up coming to Deadpool’s aid anyway.

Domino

The short version of Domino’s (Zazie Beetz) powers is that she is extra lucky. The long version is that she can manipulate probability. It is a power she technically has no conscious control over, which is fine because she’s lucky enough that she doesn’t need to think about it. She does have to be a part of an event for the luck to trigger, however, so she couldn’t just hope Deadpool gets lucky without being a part of whatever event he is a part of.

She is a skilled mercenary and assassin, and pretty much good at everything she puts her mind to.  In the comics, she and Cable have an ongoing friendship, making her an obvious choice to place in a movie with Cable.

Bedlam

Jesse “Bedlam” Aaronson is played by Terry Crews, which is possibly the best superpower ever. He is also able to disrupt anything electrical, similarly to an electro-magnetic pulse. As his strength in the comics grows, he learns to disrupt the bio-electric processes in human brains. This allows him to basically cast a Cruciatus Curse on anyone, so that they feel immense pain everywhere at once, or put them to sleep.

He can also track people based on their unique bio-electric signature. So he’s like a deatheater mixed with a hound dog mixed with a well-trained fighter that is tough enough to be portrayed by the wonderful Terry Crews. He’s a badass.

Zeitgeist

Axel “Zeitgeist” Cluney (Played by Bill Skarsgård) is a pretty unfortunate soul. His powers include acidic vomit strong enough to melt 10 cm of steel in less than a minute, and enhanced durability.

The word “zeitgeist” is German and describes a particular mood in an era of history. The character is haunted by nightmares, which began around the same time he began vomiting up acid, and have never gone away. In the comics, he spends his free time lounging around with beautiful women, studying people. Especially heroes and villains.

Shatterstar

The comic book version of Shatterstar is only written about sparsely, however, what is known is that he is not from Earth, and is likely a product of genetic manipulation. He is extra fast, strong, and can heal faster than humans. His swords are his biggest asset as a superhero, as he can use them to create a concussive force, blasting his enemies to the ground. Played by Lewis Tan in the movie, Shatterstar is also known as a master of strategy and fighting.

An awesomely notable aspect of his comic character is his asexuality. He is said to have a “genetic bond mate,” who is never seen. However he does not feel sexual attraction. Ever. He does seem to have some romantic wants, with an almost-relationship with another member of the X-Force, but his asexual nature is a huge boon to the LGBTQ+ community.

Cable

Nathan “Cable” Summers (Played by Josh Brolin) is the child of Scott “Cyclops” Summers and a clone of Jean “The Phoenix” Grey. He was taken from the modern timeline and sent to the future so that he could be saved from a horrible illness, where he was raised to be a warrior. Because of his illness, he is equipped with a cybernetic arm, which adds to the badass nature of his inborn powers. Namely, he is telepathic and telekinetic, and due to his training, he is a better fighter than almost anyone in the Marvel comics.

In the movie, it is unknown if his superior abilities are from his cybernetic arm and eye, or if they are inborn, but whatever the cause for his awesomeness, he lives up to his badass comic-book name.

Vanisher

Seen for only seconds in the movie, Vanisher is a hero on the X-Force Team. In the comics, he is a teleporter. However it seems in the movie he has the power of invisibility. He is played by Brad Pitt. I am not going to add a picture of the Vanisher here, as I don’t want to spoil the surprise.

Yukio

Not much is known about Yukio (played by Shioli Kutsuna) except that she is part of the X-Men team, has electrical powers, and is the romantic girlfriend of Ellie “Negasonic Teenage Warhead” Phimister. Their relationship is a huge step forward for the LGBTQ+ crowd, as the first openly gay relationship in any superhero movie. She also seems to actually enjoy being around Deadpool, which is a power in and of itself.
