How do I get more Primals?

Maybe you aren't pushing as high on the leaderboard as you had hoped; Maybe your friends keep bragging about how they could wipe the floor with you because you have worthless gear.  Whatever your reason for googling “how to farm primals,” landed you here and now, together, we will discover the top 5 best ways to find primal loot.  Before we begin, we have to get one thing clear; to get Primal gear, YOU HAVE TO HAVE COMPLETED GR70.  Also, there is no fast and easy way to farm Primals as they have a drop rate of around 1 in 400 legendaries.

1. Group GR speed farming

Anthony Evans explaining Speed Farming Primals

The easiest and most fun way to farm Primals is to get together with a few friends and run through the highest level GR that the four of you can handle in around 2 minutes.  Pick your best speed builds and GRIND AWAY!  Remember you are focussing on getting the most loot possible to maximize your chances at a Primal drop.

GRIND. GRIND. GRIND.

Keep completion time around 2 minutes.

Pro Tip #1: Don’t spend too much time in town.  Don’t identify items, Don’t go shopping. When your inventory gets full, unload it and move on.

2. Solo GR speed farming

Solo speed farming works the same as group speed farming and the above Youtube link does an excellent job explaining the method.  The only difference in solo is that you may not be able to complete as high of level GRs in the same amount of time.  Again, loot per minute is key.  For instance, speed farming a level 60 GR, you would need to farm for roughly 2 hours to statistically see a Primal drop.

Pro-tip #2: Start teleporting to town while making gem upgrades to save a few more seconds.

Keep grinding, that glorious red beam of light is SO worth it.

3. Kadala

Gamer and Youtuber Raxx has an overall leveling, paragon levels and primal farming video that is fantastic and also talks about farming items from Kadala @ 1:35

So now you are tired of speed farming, maybe you’ve done some bounties as well and now you have all these blood shards laying around.  It is time to go to Kadala and gamble your shards.  The most cost-effective method is to buy items that require the fewest shards and spam buy the item until something good pops up.

This will use a TON of shards

You may or may not get a primal.

4. Kanai’s Cube

Hoodedshivster talks about this method roughly three minutes into this video:

The “Upgrade Rare Item” recipe at Kanai’s cube is another method to farming Primals in addition to “Reforge Legendary.”  Both of these methods are VERY EXPENSIVE.  “Upgrade Rare Item” will take an item and give you a new weapon of the same type. (ex. Bow for Bow not Bow for Armor).  Reforge Legendary simply re-rolls the stats affixed to the current item and has a chance to become Primal.

Both methods are very expensive,resource-wise.

Neither guarantee Primal items.

5. Bounties

The video by Raxx (see above) talks about these options as well at the18-minute mark.

Bounties will also have a chance to drop Primal items.  The downside to doing this instead of speed farming is that you will be playing even longer to have the same odds.  This also is a method better used at the end of the season as opposed to the beginning.  You can play adventure mode and freely slay demons at a much lower chance to gain a Primal as well.

This method is good for providing extra blood shards and resources.

It will take a VERY long time to generate Primal drops.

Cube recipes drop in Horadric Caches.

Some items only drop in bounties
