MTG Arena Best Cards To Craft
Updated:
17 Dec 2019

There are so many cards in MTG Arena already, but lucky for any new player, the new season of standard has just started with the latest set – Throne of Eldraine, and if there has been a better time to craft new cards and make new decks it is now as the pool of cards in standard play is still relatively small, and it will only expand.

So, here are the top 15 cards in MTG arena to craft as they will stay relevant until the next rotation.

15. Any two-colour rare land or fetch land.

A well balanced mana base is the most important part.

  • It is very important to have a diverse and strong mana base for any deck you play.
  • Two-colour rare lands ensure that you hit your desired mana consistently and improve your ability to win games.
  • The most important thing to do early in the format is to craft as many of these lands as you can since they are going to stay in the format until the end.

14. Gilded Goose

Get ready to feed some ducks... Sorry, geese.

  • The Goose is currently played in most green standard decks.
  • It will stay in the format until a better low-cost ramp card is introduced.
  • It generates food which is a very important mechanic in the popular jund sacrifice deck.

13. Bonecrusher Giant

Stomp on your competition.

  • It fits into any red deck.
  • It serves as a great early removal/burn spell or a powerful low-cost creature.
  • Due to the power-level of the card it’s sure to find a place in any standard red deck for a long while.

12. Assassins Trophy

A real assassin always takes a trophy.

  • Yes, it’s a gold card, but a very powerful one.
  • It removes any permanent on the battlefield at instant speed, even lands.
  • It comes with a downside but almost every BG deck plays at least a copy or two of Assassin’s Trophy.

11. Brazen Borrower

Hide your kids, hide your wife lest the farie borrows them.

  • Brazen Borrower is currently played in most blue decks in standard.
  • It is a very powerful creature/spell card combination.
  • It’s sure to stay in standard for a long time, with possibly some even more powerful synergies coming in the future.

10. Casualties of War

War is destruction.

  • It is not necessary to craft a whole playset of these puppies, one or two will suffice.
  • With the abundance of artifacts and enchantments in the current meta it is very important to have a capable removal spell. Casualties of War definitely counts as one.
  • Black and Green decks have been at the top of the meta for a long time now and it sure doesn’t look like they’re going away any time soon.

9. Vivien, Arkbow Ranger

Bring it on.

  • Vivien is currently the second most powerful green planeswalker.
  • It fits into any primarily green creature deck.
  • All of her abilities are very relevant to any board state, which makes her a real threat to your opponent.

8. Questing Beast

The beast of all beasts.

  • Questing beast is currenty one of the most powerful green creatures. It ticks many boxes when it comes to long term playability in standard.
  • It is quick, not too costly, has vigilance - which makes it a great attacker and a formidable blocker.
  • It removes planeswalkers with ease.
  • It fits into some of the most powerful decks in the meta.

7. Liliana, Dreadhorde General

Get ready for the zombie apocalypse.

  • Every standard rotation has a powerful Liliana to play with, this time around she’s a real force to be reckoned with.
  • No need to craft a full playset as this is a high-cost planeswalker, but get ready to dish out a few of those mythic wildcards as you will want to have at least one or two in most of your black decks.
  • It’s currently played in the best meta decks in standard and that won’t change for a while.

6. Teferi, Time Traveler

Stop right there, scum.

  • Teferi is the quintessential planeswalker of most control decks.
  • It stops all flash decks in their tracks if it resolves and sets the opponent back a bunch.
  • A full playset of Teferis is advised for any magic player.

5. Fires of Invention

Nothing stands on the way of progress.

  • Arguably the most broken card in current standard.
  • It does not get a higher place on this list because of the likelihood it will get banned at some point in the future.
  • You need four of these to craft the top deck in the current meta.
  • It lets you play cards and use abilities with total converted mana cost of 15 on turn 5, which is just crazy strong.

 4. Vraska, Golgari Queen

Turn to stone!

  • Vraska is mostly used in the jund sacrifice deck, but will fit in any green-black brew.
  • It can destroy any early permanent and do so repeatedly as the loyalty is easy to gain back due to the +2 ability.
  • Unlikely to be removed from the meta as it is a powerful low-cost planeswalker that draws cards, gains life and removes permanents. It even includes a winning strategy once it hits 9 loyalty.

3. Hydroid Krasis

A snake, a jellyfish, it's floating???

  • Hydroid Krasis made its appearance in Ravnica Allegiance and became an instant classic.
  • It can be played early or late in the game with a powerful uncounterable effect.
  • It not only draws cards and gains life, it also leaves behind a heavy hitting creature that’s impossible to block effectively.
  • A full playset of this card is required by most magic players.

2. Nissa, Who Shakes the World

Watch the land transform in front of your eyes.

  • Nissa is currently one of the most powerful planeswalkers in standard, if not the most powerful.
  • One Nissa on the board does so much work that it can easily win the game. It has to be removed promptly as it provides threats and ramp.
  • Four Nissas are required by most green decks, especially the rampy ones.

1. Murderous Rider

A rider of the apocalypse.

  • Swift End is currently the most used removal spell in the meta.
  • The creature side of this card is no joke either.
  • You can’t go wrong by crafting four copies of this card as it will most likely remain the staple creature and planeswalker removal spell in standard for the remainder of the rotation.
