A game that pulled Disney and Final Fantasy together almost sounded ridiculous, but now here we are.

The newest Kingdom Hearts 3 trailer came out at the latest E3 and I AM HYPED. It captured everything I loved about Kingdom Hearts in the first place. The story, the environments, and the flashy combat were just so amazing. The perfect balance of nostalgia and original features has me drooling.

In this era of video games, it's hard to find anything that captures that exhilarating feeling that Kingdom Hearts can give you, but have no fear.

We have scoured the internet to find the best games that were similar to Kingdom Hearts. Whether your an old fan just trying to find something to tide you over until Kingdom Hearts 3 comes out or if you're a person who just likes games that make you smile every time you boot it up. Here are the 10 games that are like Kingdom Hearts.

10. One Piece World Seeker

 One Piece:World Seeker gameplay trailer

The one thing that always stood out to me about Kingdom Hearts was how expansive and detailed the worlds were. The first game on this list seems to capture the same awe and detail. Let me introduce you to One Piece: World Seeker. Join the straw hat pirates on an adventure in the new world with wide open areas. This game takes place on the mysterious Jail Island. Use the new sneak feature to evade guards or, even better, hide under a barrel and they will never know! Use Luffy’s Kenbunshoku Haki to look through walls and improve your combat! Use Luffy’s stretchable arms to swing from tree to tree to explore the vast island. The different areas are amazing in this game, you could be running through lush farmlands then somehow find yourself in an urban setting full of tall skyscrapers. Learn about the history of the island by finding monoliths as you explore this expansive world. I don't know about you, but I'm sure going to keep my eye out for this game when it releases.

9. Alice: Madness Returns

Alice: Madness Returns gameplay

Speaking of expansive worlds, it's time to set our sights to Victorian London. A decade after a terrible fire took her family away, 19 year old Alice Liddell is deemed sane and is currently employed at an orphanage run by Dr. Angus Bumby. Things start taking a dark turn when Alice’s traumatic childhood memories return. The deaths of her mother, father, and older sister continue to haunt the poor girl. Her mind begins to dive back into her familiar madness. She decides the best thing to do is to return back to Wonderland, but with her absence, things have gone down hill. A new evil has invaded this realm and twisted her once familiar fantasy. Now she must find what has caused this evil to occur while figuring out what caused the fire that killed her family so long ago. This dark and twisted fantasy is right up my alley. The dark storybook-like cutscenes are always a pleasure to see. The characters have amazing designs, especially as you dive deeper and deeper into Wonderland and the mystery of Alice’s memories. Enjoy the use of unique weapons like the pepper grinder that is like a hand cranked minigun and the swift slashes from the vorpal blade.

That knife is really something else! I might need to get one. For cooking of course…

8.  Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance Gameplay

The one thing I always loved about the Kingdom Hearts series was the combat. The evolving and expanding combat is always a pleasure to see, especially when you’re slashing through various heartless and bosses. Part of the Metal Gear universe, Revengeance follows Raiden four years after the events of Guns of the Patriots. He is now contracted by a private military for VIP protection, military training, and other duties. While a typical escort mission in Africa takes a turn for the worse, Raiden finds himself bloodied and broken after being attacked by the mysterious organization called Desperado Enforcement LLC. Platinum Games are always great for fast paced combat and it really shows in this game. In the first 30 minutes you will find yourself slashing through waves of baddies. What makes this game even more intense is using the new slash mechanic. Slow down time to finish enemies by cutting them into small pieces. Slice them up the right way and you'll get to rip out their fuel spines and regenerate health, making Raiden into some type of cyborg ninja vampire, and it's awesome.

7. Nioh

Nioh 15 minute gameplay

Set in Sengoku Era Japan, Nioh is a beautifully dark fantasy action RPG. Follow William, a pirate from the western world, as he sets out to reclaim his travelling spirit. The unique aspect about this game is how it uses its historical setting to enhance the game overall. For example, the protagonist is actually based on a real pirate named William Adams who was known to be the first Englishman to arrive to Japan in the 1600s. He was one of nine survivors. Another person you may come across in the game is Hattori Hanzo, a famous real ninja serving under Tokugawa Ieyasu. If you're an avid fan of Japanese history or just like historical fiction, then you'll be a big fan of this game. The combat is deep and intricate. You'll have different poses for your sword stances including high, medium, and low. Each stance enhances your attack, defense, and speed. Some weapons are more effective with different stances. Enemies may come at you and you have to think on the fly to best defeat your foe. The game grabs inspiration from Dark Souls. It will be difficult, but if you're up for the challenge, then pick up this game.

6. Devil May Cry 4

Devil May Cry 4 gameplay

Prepare to enter the gothic and supernatural world of Devil May Cry. Follow the new protagonist, Nero, and Dante on their quest. Watch as their relationship changes from enemies to allies. The DMC series always prided themselves on their over-the-top moments and crazy combat. Weilding a gun and blade never felt so good. You'll have a smile on your face as you watch Dante or Nero go to town on these demons. Go out there and make them suffer!

I don't think you could find a bad moment in this game.

5. Monster Hunter World

Monster Hunter World gameplay

Congrats hunter, you have just arrived to the new world. You and your Palico have been tasked to do one simple thing. HUNT. Monster Hunter World is the latest installment in the famed franchise. It's the first current gen game for the series and you can really tell! The story isn't really the strongest point in this game, but the hunts are always incredible. There's a reason why I have almost 150 hours invested in this game and I have been loving every second of it. There’s 14 different weapon classes from a charge blade (my personal favorite) to gun lances. Do you like to get in close and make that Nergigante regret the day it crossed your path? Choose a hammer and put the smack down on it. Do you like to keep your distance and chip away at it? Bring out a light or heavy machine gun and rain down hell! Use the environments to your advantage. Swing from vines or roots and mount the monster and knock them out. Each monster has their own unique characteristics and you will have to figure out the best way to use their attacks to your advantage.

Ah yes, the best way to catch a monster off guard is to crouch.

4. Bayonetta

Bayonetta gameplay

Picture a witch. Do you imagine a sewer green colored old hag riding a broom across a moonlit night? Well, I'm about to shatter your expectations. Bayonetta is a stylish, confident, umbra witch possessing supernatural strength and endurance mixed with her signature bullet arts (sort of like martial arts mixed with guns). She sounds much more interesting than your typical cackling witch. Bayonetta follows the story of, well, Bayonetta, an umbra witch who wakes up with no memories of who she was, besides the fact that she has these incredible powers. Follow her as she begins to unravel the mystery of who she is.

3. Final Fantasy XIV

8 Things you need to know if you're new to Final Fantasy XIV

Enter the MMOJRPG of Final Fantasy XIV. This game is very popular and with the expansion of stormblood, get ready to sink a ton of hours into this massive game. Now. I must say that this is a subscription based MMO, so if you're willing to spend a little bit of money this game will be worth every penny spent. The world feels alive and expansive  as you ride your chocobo through jungles and forests. Swim in deep underwater areas and build your character to its potential. The best thing about this game are the classes. There are so many classes, it even caught me by surprise. The game is fun and the battles you encounter in this game can be intense but rewarding.

2.Tales of Berseria

Tales of Berseria gameplay

Tales of Berseria is the 16th installment of the Tales of series. Just like most JRPGs, Berseria is lengthy and an enjoyable experience. This installment follows Velvet Crowe, the first heroine in the Tales of series, in her quest for revenge. After a tragic event that happened to her 3 years ago, resulting in her friends and family being lost and her becoming a daemon, Velvet goes on a quest for the man who wronged her in the past. Follow her and her group of morally grey pirates to see what this land has in store for her. The gameplay is beautiful as you run through the various parts of the world. The exploration is really encouraged since treasure chests can be found anywhere if you look hard enough. The fighting system is based in real time combat with the focus on a soul gauge. The soul gauge dictates how far you can take your combos. Each character in your party has 3 souls and it's possible to get more as you fight. Map out your combo attacks on a 4 stage combo system. Mix and match different styles of attacks to fit your play style.

It may look complicated, but the combat is easy to get used to.

1. God Eater 2 Rage Burst

God Eater 2 Rage Burst Gameplay

I cannot tell you how many hours I have sunk into this game. God Eater 2 Rage Burst takes place where the world has been ravaged by the Aragami. You are the newest God Eater tasked to fight these terrible beasts. Team up with various NPCs throughout the game and take back your home! This game is rich in story, each NPC is fleshed out and you get to learn what drives each of the characters. Learn, adapt, and overcome the various types of Aragami. From egg shaped ones to a giant fish that shoots water-like missles at you. If one type of weapon isn't working out for you, don't worry, the weapons system in this game is massive!  Carve pieces out of Aragami to craft new and better weapons to reclaim your world!
