Blue Essence is one of the in-game currencies in League of Legends. Its primary purpose is to allow you to unlock champions. However, obtaining blue essence is hard as grinding for it is non-existent, unlike in other MOBAs where doing an action nets a reward. Blue essence can only be obtained by leveling up, obtaining champion shards, completing missions, or purchasing them.

This short guide will outline the methods of obtaining blue essence.

Method 1: Disenchanting or using champion shards for champions you want to unlock

As you level up, you obtain various rewards, which include chests, champion capsules, and a small amount of blue essence. Unpacking and disenchanting unwanted champion shards nets you a good amount of blue essence or provides a discount on champions you wish to buy.

Method 2: Trading in event tokens for random champion shards

League has a few events per year where the players can obtain event tokens (a type of limited currency) and trade them in for various rewards, one of them being random champion shards, which you can disenchant or use.

Method 3: Completing daily and event missions

League has daily missions to win a game, which nets a miniscule amount of blue essence but a hefty XP boost, which can push you further to level up and unlock rewards. Event missions are similar too, but with a reward of tokens which you can trade in.

Method 4: Optimized grinding

Leveling up your account nets you chests and champion shards, which you can disenchant or use to get blue essence. By using XP boosts obtained via purchasing or random drops, you can boost XP gains and thus increase the amount of Blue Essence received.
