Lots of games have been released in the last few years that give you the ability to craft. This genre has gotten highly popular, with various different approaches to it. Here is a list of the best crafting games you can play on PC.

1. Tom Clancy’s The Division

Tom Clancy’s: The Division is an open-world, multiplayer third-person shooter that puts you in control of a Division agent trying to stop the effects of a virus and the organization behind it.

Crafting is a crucial part of this game if you want to get the best out of your gear and survive against tougher foes, be it either NPCs or hostile players. The game lets you craft items like weapons and gear or you can improve and customize your current gear by using different types of Crafting Sources, which you can get from looting corpses or crates. There are also locations which have a specific crafting material that get reset every 2 hours, so you can come back and get some more materials.

There are lots of things to craft, from shotguns and assault rifles to backpacks, masks and body armor.

2. No Man’s Sky

No Man’s Sky is an upcoming open-world survival space game that throws you into an infinite procedurally generated universe.

You can do whatever you want. Play as a fighter, a trader or an explorer. It’s up to you. There is no predefined goal in No Man’s Sky. You set your own objectives. Try and reach the center of the galaxy, hunt space pirates, find rare resources to sell for the highest price. You are not forced to do anything. Instead, the game gives you the freedom to make your own choices.

Crafting involves upgrading three things: your weapon, your ship and your suit. You can find different types of these items which have different layouts for slots. Slots can be used for upgrades or for storing items.  There are different types of ships, each suited for different play styles. A trader ship has a larger cargo capacity than other ships allowing for more items and resources to be carried, but they are slower than the explorer ship. Your weapon and suit, on the other hand, can only be upgraded. These two and the ship have their own “slots”. It’s like an inventory but instead of just using it to store items you also use it to place upgrades.

The weapon has four main areas of technology that can be upgraded: Grenade, Laser, Projectile and Scanning. For example, a Land Disruptor is a Grenade technology upgrade which you use as an excavation tool to create craters on the ground by throwing remotely charged plasma grenades. Your suit also has several technology categories that can be upgraded: Armor, Protection, Stamina and Utilities. You can, say, upgrade to a Jetpack which is a Utilities technology upgrade that is quite useful when trying to reach high places but it also helps in exploring underground tunnels because you don’t have to fear about getting stuck. Crafting these upgrades will involve finding a variety of materials found on various planets.

Plutonium, one of the many materials you will find in No Man’s Sky.

You will have to figure out what materials can be found on different planets. There are many different materials, such as Plutonium, Carbon, Silicon and much more.  There are various rules that dictate what kind of material you will find on a planet, things like the distance between the planet and the sun.

Welcome to the Wasteland.

Crafting involves gathering raw components. You gather these materials by scrapping in “Workshop Mode”.  Scrap any junk you find.  There are various crafting stations. The weapons workbench is used to scrap and build weapon mods using parts from various weapons. At the chemistry station you can craft things like medicine, grenades and mines.

Go to the armor workbench to scrap, modify and repair armor and clothing. Use the cooking station to prepare scavenged items or go to the Workshop to scrap and build buildings, furniture, and various other things for your settlement.

You can make stuff like this, too!

Overall the crafting system is complex and there are a lot of things you can scrap to turn into components such as steel, rubber, plastic, leather and more which you can use to make many different kinds of weapons, armor and other things for your settlement.

4. This War of Mine

This War of Mine provides an experience of war from a new perspective. Play as a group of civilians trying to survive a war-torn city struggling with lack of food, medicine and danger from other unfriendly scavengers.

Survival is the main goal of the game. Snipers during the day will stop you from leaving your shelter, so you will need to focus on crafting, trading and taking care of your survivors, while at night you will take one of your civilians on a mission to scavenge for items that will help you stay alive. Protect civilians or sacrifice some of them to ensure longer-term survival.

When it comes to crafting, you start out with a basic Workshop which you use to build other crafting stations, furniture and some materials. Crafting a bed is important because you need to give your characters a good place to rest. Sick and injured characters that rest here have a small chance to recover overnight. Giving the character some bandages or medications while he rests will give him a higher chance to recover. The Radio is also very useful to craft because it provides information on weather forecast, criminal activities and more.

You can upgrade the Workshop to gain access to better items, to things such as a reinforced door, a thermo regulator or a heat lamp.  Other Workstations can also be upgraded and give reduced crafting costs and new items.  All the things you craft will require having components, wood, parts and electric parts. Some may also take a bit of in-game time to craft.

Once you craft it, place it on the ground and right click on it. This will show you a 3x3 crafting grid and the items in your inventory. Most of the important or useful items need to have the materials placed in the correct positions on the crafting grid to craft things such as pickaxes, swords, shovels, hoes or armor.

They are called the Bio and Tech Research Systems, which can be upgraded by finding better software. In Terraria, crafting is done through the crafting bar visible on the left side of the interface below the player’s inventory and shows all craftable items available to the player. The items will only appear in the list if you have the necessary materials in your inventory. Clicking the item in the list will craft it and place the item on the cursor. You can hold the right mouse button to continuously craft the item until the stack is filled.

Image

One of the many things players have made in Terraria.

While some crafting recipes can be made using only the materials in your inventory, most will require a Crafting Station to make their item available. Items that do require a crafting station will appear in the crafting bar while you are standing near the required crafting station, meaning that you don’t have to click on the crafting station to craft the item you want. This means that you can craft from multiple nearby crafting stations at once. There are currently 44 crafting stations in the game, which is a lot compared to some other games.

But, if you team up, if you plan, if you prepare, slowly progress, one day you will make your dreams come true.   Work to achieve your goals, build a base, train your men, aid or fight factions and survive in the harsh desert.

In Kenshi you can begin crafting after building a base and once you have the necessary materials. You will need to also find blueprints to be able to craft what you want. There are four types of blueprints: Construction, Medical, Weapons and Armor & Clothing. Blueprints can often be bought from merchants in towns.
