50. Grognak’s Axe

"Me Grognak. Me have axe."

If you want to be the barbarian himself, you can pick up Grognak’s Axe and costume at Hubris Comics. It’s located to the left in a locked container, so make sure to level up your lockpicking perk or bring Piper before swiping it.

49. Sword: Kremvh’s Tooth

Image
Body Image

Totally not gonna summon an old god.

Kremvh’s Tooth is hidden in a pool of irradiated water in the Basement of Dunwich Borers. Defeat the four feral ghouls (RIP project managers) to obtain it.

48. Revolver: The Gainer

Image
Body Image

Squint your eyes to find out what'll happen to the next guy you shoot at.

There’s a secret pump station east of Finch Farm. Head inside to find a puzzle made of four buttons and numbers. Set the numbers to 10, 4, 5, 1 from left to right. Once the door’s unlocked, claim The Gainer for yourself!

47. Automatic Rifle: Spray N’Pray

Image
Body Image

Disclaimer: Don't shoot in enclosed spaces.

Cricket, a trader in Vault 81, sells the Spray N’Pray. Explosive bullets sold separately.

46. Unique Weapon: Broadsider

"Watch where you're pointing that thing!"

Complete the USS Constitution questline for the ship’s robot crew, and you’ll be gifted with this portable cannon of destruction.

45. Cryo Rifle: Cryolator

Image
Body Image

Side effects may include spontaneous exclamation of Mr. Freeze puns.

At the start of the game, you’ll probably come across the Cryolator in Vault 111. Its glass case requires you have Master lockpicking. However, you can get around it by ordering Dogmeat to fetch it for you.

Opposable thumbs are overrated, apparently.

44. Rifle: REBA II

Image
Body Image

The best kind of bug zapper.

At the Rook Family House, a man will be standing on the roof. If you help him out and fix the turrets in town, he’ll give you the REBA II as thanks.

43. Furious Power Fist

Image
Body Image

As close to One Punch Man as you'll get.

Defeat Swan (local resident of Swan’s Pond, population: 1) and loot his massive corpse to get the Furious Power Fist. Now go punch your foes to pieces!

42. Sword: General Chao’s Revenge

Image
Body Image

Nothing saws through the steak of your enemies like a giant serrated blade.

Go to Drumlin Diner and side with Trudy and her son (suffering from withdrawal). After defeating Wolfgang, she’ll sell you a number of items. Among them being a sword called General Chao’s Revenge.

41. 10mm Pistol: Wastelander’s Friend

Image
Body Image

"Say hello to my little friend."

This 10mm pistol packs a surprising punch. You can purchase it from Deb, a trader at the Bunker Hill monument.

40. Unique Weapon: Junk Jet

Image
Body Image

Collect all the Teds and let them loose.

During the Call to Arms quest with Paladin Dance, be sure to explore the engine control
room. You’ll find the bulky Junk Jet on a table. Stuff a teddy bear inside and take off a raider’s head!

39. Energy Weapon: Tesla Rifle

Image
Body Image

It's basically force lightning.

Requires the Automatron DLC. During the Headhunters quest in Fort Hagen Satellite array, you’ll be able to loot the Tesla Rifle from the area’s boss.

38. Power Fist: Deathclaw Gauntlet

Image
Body Image

Slightly more painful than brass knuckles.

Once you’ve started The Devil’s Due quest, grab the Pristine Deathclaw Egg at the Museum of Witchcraft. The next stage of the quest will take you to a nest where the Deathclaw Gauntlet lies in wait.

37. Sword: Shishkebab
Image
Body Image

Wait till you set it on fire.

As a reward for completing the Out of the Fire quest, you’ll receive this flaming katana. Head to Finch Farm and speak to Abraham Finch to begin the quest. From there, delve into Saugus Blast Furnace and take out the ferocious boss, Slag. He'll drop Shishkebab from his cold, dead hands.

36. Alien Blaster Pistol

Do you believe in aliens? Who cares—you get a cool gun out of this!

Once you reach a high enough level, an event will trigger. A flaming UFO will shoot across the sky. You can find the crash site southeast of Oberland Station. Search the nearby cave, and you’ll run into a wounded extraterrestrial in possession of the alien blaster pistol.

35. Saw Maze

Image
Body Image

"Finally! The way out of Ikea!"

This mysterious puzzle doesn’t appear on your pip-boy map, but it can be found in the parking lot connected to Fallon’s Department Store. Simply follow the arrows to the underground entrance, and you’ll find yourself in a booby-trapped maze leading to rigged loot.

34. Carhenge

Image
Body Image

What a beautiful and mysterious culture.

Someone’s been worshipping Chryslus Motors. When you travel directly south of Walden Pond, you’ll come across a strange formation of cars stacked to look like Stonehenge. Maybe you’ll even meet the artist nearby!

33. Christmas in Diamond City

Image
Body Image

"Fa la la la la!"

Even post-apocalyptia celebrates the most wonderful time of the year. Travel to Diamond City when the in-game clock reaches Christmas day, and you’ll get to share in the festive sights—string up the lights and bring out the cocoa!

32. Developer Room

Image
Body Image

If nobody ever finds out, can you really call it cheating?

PC gamers rejoice, because you can only reach the Developer room using the computer-exclusive console commands. Open up the console with “~“ and type in “COCQASMOKE” to enjoy all the game’s items (weapons included) to your heart’s content.

31. Lighthouse Cult

Image
Body Image

A classic location for creepy goings-on.

Head south of Poseidon Energy to reach the Kingsport Lighthouse, which has been taken over by radical followers of the Children of Atom. This may be a reference to the town of Kingsport from the works of H.P. Lovecraft, where cultist rituals took place.

30. Mirelurk Shrine

In the area surrounding the Electrical Hobbyist Club, you’ll find a strange shrine with a single mirelurk egg placed at the center. The shrine must be important to someone, because a mirelurk king will fight to the death defending it.

29. Sewer Beneath Concord

During the main quest when you step into a suit of power armor and face off a deathclaw in Concord, you can actually explore the monster’s den. When the deathclaw pops out of the street, it’ll reveal a sewer you can drop down into.

28. Ghoulified Neighbors and Vault-Tec Rep

Image
Body Image

"Lookin' good, buddy."

As you travel the Boston Wasteland, you may randomly encounter a pack of feral ghouls. Only, they all share the familiar names of your neighbors from two hundred years ago.

Your more fortunate friend, the Vault-Tec Rep from the beginning of the game, now lives as a ghoul in the Hotel Rexford in Good Neighbor. You can even convince him to return to Sanctuary!

27. Dam – Maintenance and Reactor Sub Level

Head east from Forest Grove Marsh to reach a dam. Inside the Operations room, you’ll find a hidden entrance covered by boxes in the corner. This is the entrance to the secret reactor level.

26. Cat House in Diamond City

Like cats? Well Eustace Hawthorne likes them more. Pay her house a visit and you can see all twenty nine of her cats. The house can be found in the stands, the upper level of the city.

25. Hidden Sewer

A secret sewer can be discovered north of Taffington Boathouse.

24. Yangtze Submarine

An old Chinese relic from the war, the Yangtze is a military submarine hidden underwater. To find it, head south of the Boston Airport and swim until you find a pole sticking out of the water. You'll get to explore the sub and enjoy the quest and unique weapon that comes with it.

23. Cat Farm

Head southeast of Walden Pond and you’ll find a trader living with three of his cats. Normally that’d be adorable, until you realize what exactly he sells (Hint: it’s not fancy feast).

22. The Pickman Gallery

Image
Body Image

How avant-garde.

A macabre art project consisting of strung corpses and blood paintings can be toured inside a building called The Pickman Gallery. Just head south of USS Constitution to reach this colorful H.P. Lovecraft reference.

21. Hideout Under the Bridge

20. Mysterious Stranger Case File

Image
Body Image

"I'm onto you, Mysterious Stranger! If that is your real name!"

If you have the Mysterious Stranger perk and he helps you out while Nick Valentine is with you, the noir detective will comment on it. He’ll say he’s been trying to peg him down for years, and will even have a file on him in his office. Find it beneath the bed for a fascinating read.

19. Gary Blocks

Image
Body Image

Not to be confused with his brother, Xzuu.

A nod to the Gary clones of Vault 108 in Fallout 3, numerous building blocks have been positioned to spell out “Gary”.

18. Fallout Lunchboxes

Image
Body Image

"Stan's! Definitely do not eat--I don't care how long it's been!"

Vault-tec lunchboxes can be found all throughout the Boston Wasteland. Pop one open and out pops a random item with a burst of celebratory confetti.

17. Happy Birthday Sweet Roll

Image
Body Image

So it’s a little stale! So what?

You can take part in the Lone Wanderer’s tenth birthday by eating the sweet roll they received as a present. Who knows how it got from DC to Boston? The Happy Birthday sweet roll is located on a table in the dining room of the Reeb Marina.

16. Red Seat of Ted Williams’ Home Run

Baseball fans might know about the lonely red seat of Fenway Park. It marks the exact landing spot of Ted Williams’ home run—the park’s furthest. But did you know Bethesda added that little detail to Fallout 4?

If you’ve got a sharp eye, you can spot it in Diamond City. The seat is slightly redder than the other rusted chairs.

15. Holotape Games

Image
Body Image

Good thing Donkey Kong's obsessed with barrels and not mini nukes.

In Fallout 4 you can collect five holotape games that parody classic video games such as Donkey Kong and Missile Command. Here are their locations:

Red Menace: Vault 111

Zeta Invaders: Nick Valentine’s Office

Pipfall: Fort Hagen Command Center

Atomic Command: Museum of Freedom

Grognak the Barbarian and the Ruby Ruins: Memory Den

14. The Lone Wanderer’s Bike

Fallout 3’s protagonist, the Lone Wanderer, is still wandering the vast Wasteland. Only this time in style. “Lone Wanderer” brand motorcycles and advertisements can be found in various locations.

13. Nirnroot Plants from the Elder Scrolls

Image
Body Image

If you feel the urge to pick them all, you've played too much Oblivion.

Fans of the Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (and maybe Skyrim) will recognize what the “Experimental Plants” aboard the Prydwen really are. You can find the nirnroot in the biolab—just don’t add it to your tea.

12. Walden Pond

Image
Body Image

"Wow I'm feeling the creative juices already! Oh, wait, that's just trash sludge."

If you’re feeling a might pensive, why not take a trip to the very lakeside where Henry David Thoreau contemplated transcendentalism? Because in the Walden Reserve, you can find Walden Pond, where he lived. Just with more trash than philosophy.

11. Dunwich Borers

Image
Body Image

"Monday we select the sacrifice. Tuesday we bathe in their blood. Wednesday is poker night."

After clearing out the raiders, enter the Basement of Dunwich Borers. You’ll be assailed by pre-war flashbacks. These creepy paranormal events are a reference to H.P. Lovecraft’s “The Dunwich Horror”.

10. The Cask of Amontillado Easter Egg

A cleverly replicated scene from Edgar Allen Poe’s “The Cask of Amontillado” can be seen in The Castle. In the story, a man was lured by his friend with the promise of wine (who can say no to wine?) only to be chained and entombed inside a brick wall. You can see his partially revealed skeleton. The wine was a ruse, but in Fallout 4 you can enjoy a full casket of Amontillado—

Oh. They’re empty.

9. Ted Easter Egg

Image
Body Image

Charming.

Everyone’s favorite (or not so favorite) risqué teddy bear can be found in Fallout 4. He’s actually kind of all over the place. One location is parked in front of the TV in Forest Grove Marsh.

8. Sons of Anarchy Easter Egg

Image
Body Image

The tats tell all.

Through accesses a terminal downstairs in BADTFL Regional Office, you’ll find a report on Opie Hurst. This is a reference to the character Opie from Sons of Anarchy and Ryan Hurst, the actor who portrayed him.

7. Cheers Easter Egg

Image
Body Image

Killed one too many brain cells there.

From Swan’s Pond, make a beeline west to reach the unmarked Prost Bar. There you’ll find two skeletal remains on the dilapidated Cheers set. One of them is wearing a postman’s outfit, much like Cliff Clavin from the show.

6. The Walking Dead Easter Egg

There’s an NPC at Kendall Hospital named Father Gabe. He’s being protected by a swarm of zombies—that is, feral ghouls. This is a direct reference to The Walking Dead comics and TV show in which one Father Gabriel Stokes lives in a barricaded church before joining the main group.

5. JAWS Easter Egg

Killer sharks are one thing, but killer mutant sharks are another. If you travel northwest of Diamond City, you’ll come across a boat along the river shore. Aboard the boat you’ll find the corpse of a mutant sea creature besides the skeleton of Quint, the shark hunting fisherman from the movie JAWS.

4. Good Will Hunting Easter Egg

Image
Body Image

Matt Damon never had a chance to solve this math problem.

Inside the C.I.T. Ruins you’ll find the skeletal remains of a janitor besides a chalkboard. The familiar drawings are from a scene in Good Will Hunting, though they’re only halfway complete. Someone got a little interrupted by the war.

3. Alien Easter Egg

Image
Body Image

An obscure reference only the determined would look for.

During a Brotherhood of Steel quest for Scribe Haylen, you’ll pick up a piece of tech called a flux sensor. Examine the back of the device to see the following inscription: “FLUX SENSOR CM-88B 180924609”. This is the model and registration number of the USCSS Nostromo, the ship from the movie Alien.

2. True Detective Easter Egg

Image
Body Image

Sounds about right.

If you read through the Brotherhood of Steel terminal in Cambridge Police Station, you’ll find a report playfully poking at Rust Cohle, a main character in the first season of True Detective.

1. Blade Runner Easter Eggs

There’s not one but two nods to Blade Runner in Fallout 4. The first is in Diamond City. A robot named Takahashi runs a noodle shop similar to the guy in the movie. They even share the same line!

The second easter egg can be found on the roof of Mass Fusion Containment Shed. A posed mannequin and the body of a raider depicts the final scene between Deckard and Roy. Visit during a rainy night for better effect.

There are so many insane things to see in Fallout 4. All these imbedded secrets make the game even wilder. Checking out secrets is fun, but stumbling upon them is exhilarating! Have you come across any hidden gems or easter eggs? Share your discoveries in the comments below.
