[Top 10] Fairy Tail Best Arcs

10. Loke Arc

Image
Body Image

Loke has been acting strange. Well, stranger than usual. He’s still avoiding Lucy per usual, but now he seems weaker, almost as if he can barely stand. Lucy, being her brave and courageous self, decides to investigate what’s wrong with her fellow guild mate, hoping to help him.

Lucy then decides to investigate Loke's situation. She discovers that he once had a relationship with Karen Lilica, a Celestial Spirit Mage from Blue Pegasus who died. Shortly after, Gray tells her that Loke has left Fairy Tail. She joins the search for him, and she manages to find Loke at Karen's grave and reveals that she knows the truth behind him and Karen; she explains that Karen was formerly his summoner and that his real identity is Leo the Lion, one of the twelve Zodiac Celestial Spirits. Loke reveals that he was exiled from the Celestial Spirit World for the crime of killing Karen.

He proceeds to elaborate on his past with Lucy. Karen was corrupted by her fame and became very conceited and arrogant, especially towards her Celestial Spirits whom she treated more like tools than living things. Karen summoned Aries and told her to stay in the human world for seven days, despite the fact that the act would likely kill her. Before Karen could do so, Leo suddenly changed places with Aries and gave Karen an ultimatum: sever her contract with him and Aries or lose her opportunities to work with other Celestial Spirits in the future.

Karen refused to give in, and once Loke gave up, he found that Karen had gone on a dangerous job without him and died. Since, Loke has suffered through Exile from the Spirit World. Lucy begged the Spirit King to take him back, and only after a huge show of strength he did.

Why It’s Great

  • Ever wondered about Loke’s true origin and personality? Well, here you have it. You even get to learn more about a wizard’s relationship with their spirits and a spirit's relationship with other spirits.
  • Despite the sadness of Loke’s past and Karen’s death, there’s plenty of comedy. Natsu and Gray having a pillow fight, goofing around in the guild hall, etc. It’ll cheer you right up.
  • Finally, it’s one of the last times we see Loke for a while, so we should embrace how awesome and amazing his presence is as a character. Spoiler Alert: he’s even cooler as a spirit.

9. Macao Arc
Image
Body Image

Always great to start off with a Fairy Tail classic, it’s the very first Fairy Tail arc! At the start of the arc, the Magic Council is discussing the numerous problems Fairy Tail has caused them, including major destruction of property. Meanwhile, Lucy Heartfilia has entered the port of Hargeon, looking to join said Fairy Tail guild. After an unfortunate encounter with a mage named Bora and his love potion, she meets Natsu and his blue Exceed, Happy, both of whom are searching for someone named Igneel.

After revealing that Igneel is actually a dragon over lunch, Lucy leaves and Natsu vows to pay her back. After Lucy chooses to join Bora at his yacht, she was invited earlier, she’s ready for him to take her to Fairy Tail. However, Bora lied, and it was up to Natsu and Aquarius, Lucy’s celestial spirit, to destroy the boat and escape. After that, Natsu takes Lucy to the Fairy Tail guild so she can join, as he is a real member.

After Lucy officially joins the guild and meets the members, Macao’s son, Romeo, comes to Fairy Tail’s master, Makarov begging to send out a search party for his father. He had been missing for days after going on a job. Natsu, moved by his parental abandonment by Igneel, decides to form his own search party with Lucy and Happy to find Macao. They traveled up to Mount Hakabe where Macao was last seen, and were attacked by a mountain creature called a Vulcan, which Macao was instructed to subdue.

After much fighting and antics, Natsu and Lucy discover that the Vulcan was actually Macao, who had been possessed by it. They then take him back to Fairy Tail, much to everyone’s joy.

Why It’s Great

  • Looking for a nice, Fairy Tail flashback with your favorite characters? This arc is for you. It is reminiscent of the good old days, and will always put a smile on your face.
  • Who doesn’t love meeting Natsu for the first time, or seeing all of your favorite characters introduced one more time? With the series just ending, this is a perfect time to start all over again to the very end.
  • And finally, if you’re a first timer, starting right here is recommended for you. It’s where all Fairy Tail fans get their starts, and you get to experience Natsu, Lucy, Gray, and the entire Fairy Tail guild all at one time.

8. The Batte of Fairy Tail Arc
Image
Body Image

After a relaxing vacation after facing the Tower of Heaven, Team Natsu, made up of Gray, Nastu, Lucy, and Erza find their way back to Fairy Tail. Some new changes have definitely taken place since they’ve arrived; the guild hall has been repaired and Juvia Lockser, along with Gajeel Redfox have joined after leaving the dark guild Phantom Lord. Team Natsu has mixed reactions to their presence, but Juvia helped Lucy in the Tower of Heaven to prove her loyalty, and Gajeel is being watched very closely by Makarov and Erza.

After some silly antics concerning a reporter, interviews with the magazine Sorcerer Weekly, and Gajeel’s interactions with Team Shadowgear and Laxus, the Miss Fairy Tail contest is upon everyone. All of the girls in Fairy Tail enter and show off their looks and their magical talents. But just as Lucy begins her act, Evergreen, a member of Laxus’ Thunder Legion, turns all of the contestants to stone. After this, Laxus and the rest of the Thunder Legion appear, Laxus suddenly announcing that there will be an intense series of battles to see who is the strongest in Fairy Tail.

The instructions are clear; the mages of Fairy Tail have to find and defeat Laxus and his Thunder Legion in three hours, or the girls turned to stone will perish. The battlefield will be all of Magnolia. Makarov and Natsu try to help, but are blocked by one of Freed’s enchantments; if you were over 80 years old, you couldn’t leave. Natsu doesn’t understand why he can’t leave, but is unfortunately stuck. Meanwhile, fights are taking place everywhere, most of the Fairy Tail mages losing to the Thunder Legion.

Gajeel seems to have disappeared, and Makarov begs Laxus to call off the battle. Laxus refuses, saying that the only way to end the fighting was for Makarov to give up his control over the guild to Laxus. Gajeel finally appears to help, but suffers the same fate as Natsu and Makarov; he’s trapped. Natsu decides the only way to turn things in their favor would be to depetrify Erza with his fire, a bad idea which ultimately worked. After punching him for nearly burning her, Erza reveals she wasn’t as affected by Evergreen’s magic due to her false eye. Now Erza is ready to fight, along with the mysterious Mystogan.

After several intense fights between the Thunder Legion and Fairy Tail, as well as an attempt to destroy all of Laxus’ dangerous lightning lacrima, the Thunder Legion and Laxus ultimately lose the Battle of Fairy Tail. Laxus is ultimately banned from Fairy Tail, and after that, the Fantasia parade takes place, and Laxus can only watch from a distance.

Why It’s Great

  • If you’ve missed seeing some real action from other members of Fairy Tail, look no further. Since Phantom Lord and the Tower of Heaven, not much action has taken place. And while a civil war is sad, it makes great for a lot of character development.
  • If you enjoy seeing minor or side characters get more attention, this arc is also great for you. Many of the main female leads are trapped in stone until later in the arc, and Natsu and Gajeel can’t even escape to fight. It gives the others a great time to shine.
  • And if you like typical anime girls in swimsuits and pretty outfits, as well as being badass at the same time, this is the perfect arc for you. It’s also rich with comedy, and a laugh is always good.

7. Tower of Heaven Arc
Image
Body Image

Loke, a former Fairy Tail wizard who is in fact a Celestial Spirit, was so grateful to Lucy for saving him, that he gave her and his friends tickets to the Arkane Resort. After suffering from some nightmares the minute they arrive, Erza dresses for a formal night with Team Natsu at the casino. Even Juvia, a former wizard of Phantom Lord, has arrived, asking Gray about joining Fairy Tail. However, while playing, Team Natsu is unexpectedly attacked by some of Erza’s former childhood friends, Wally Buchanan, Shô, and Simon.

Simon demands that all of them be taken to Erza, and Miliana, another friend of Erza’s, manages to keep the rest of Fairy Tail distracted. That is until she sees Happy, her love for cats giving them others a chance to escape. Meanwhile, Erza has been tied to Shô’s boat headed to the island that contains the R-System and the 8th Tower of Heaven. Shô eventually lets slip that the reason they’re doing this is because Erza betrayed Jellal, another childhood friend of theirs, when they were kids trapped in slavery.

At the same time, miles away, the Magic Council has discovered that the R-System and an 8th tower still exist via Siegrain, Jellal’s doppelgänger. The council wishes to send an army, not knowing that a cult leader Jellal is possessing the tower. Back at the tower, where Erza is now imprisoned, Shô reveals to her that Jellal wants to use her as a sacrifice to bring back the Dark Mage so that they can have “paradise” once and for all.

Erza escapes Shô to find and defeat Jellal, while Siegrain, Jellal’s supposed twin, suggests that they destroy the tower with an Etherion blast. This could do severe damage to the Magic World beyond the tower. While they’re still having this discussion, Erza meets up again with Team Natsu and Juvia, only to tell them to leave and let her deal with the problem, but not before telling the truth about her upbringing and her work on the Tower of Heaven.

Shô listened in on the truth and is angry with Jellal for lying to him and white himself for believing him. They all decided to work to defeat Jellal, but not before Trinity Raven, a band of hired assassins via Jellal, strikes. After Juvia and Lucy defeat Vidaldus, Natsu defeats Fukuro, and Erza defeats Ikaruga, Erza makes her way to the top of the tower to confront Jellal. At this point, the Magic Council has chosen to fire Etherion and the deadly weapon is counting down.

Unfortunately, the Etherion blast had the opposite effect; instead of destroying the tower, it gave it the power to finally resurrect Zeref, the Dark Wizard. Jellal and Siegrain tricked everyone. However, in order for the system to be truly activated, the tower needs a living sacrifice. Jellal chooses Erza after defeating her in battle, telling her he loves her before pushing her in. Luckily, Natsu arrives, pulling Erza out of the lacrima just in time.

However, after an intense fight between Jellal and Natsu that Natsu won, it turns out that in order to truly save everyone there still needs to be a sacrifice. Erza chooses herself, viewing her own funeral while she floats in nothingness and then realizing that she made the wrong choice. Somehow, Natsu manages to rescue her, and they make it to the shore of the beach just as the tower was destroyed. Erza’s friends left to find their own destinies, and Team Natsu travels home.

Why Its Great

  • Ever wanted to know more about Erza’s past? Well here you go! This arc is basically a play by play of Erza’s key points in her life as a child and how she is ultimately connected to Zeref. If you wanted to know more about Erza, check this out!
  • If you’re interested in figuring out where the Zeref arc truly began, look no further. This is the first time Zeref has been treated seriously during the entire series, and it’s the first time someone has wanted to resurrect him. If you’re interested at all, check this out!
  • And finally, if you’re curious to see more characters outside of the Fairy Tail guild, you’re in luck. We’re introduced to tons of new faces, and it’s great to see some new personalities for the first time.

6. Phantom Lord Arc
Image
Body Image

After Team Natsu returns from a job, they suddenly find the Fairy Tail guild hall destroyed by giant, iron rods. After entering, Mirajane tells them that the Phantom Lord guild attacked them. Team Natsu follows the others to the basement, where Makarov and the other members are sitting. Natsu gets angry with Makarov for not being so concerned, but the guild master reminds him that he just went on an S Class quest without his permission, and deserved to be punished.

When Lucy arrives home, the rest of Team Natsu is in her apartment, as it was recommended they stay outside of the guild so that the Phantom Lord members couldn’t track them. Here is where we find out more about Phantom Lord; they have a long standing rivalry with Fairy Tail, as both of their guild masters are one of the Ten Wizard Saints, and their infamous Element Four are on par with any Fairy Tail S Class Wizard. And finally they have what is considered the strongest member of Phantom Lord; Gajeel Redfox, the Iron Dragon Slayer.

Makarov is determined to handle this peacefully until he sees Team Shadowgear crucified to a tree via Gajeel’s iron, the Phantom Lord guild mark painted over Levy’s stomach. It’s official; this means war. Fairy Tail attacks the Phantom Lord guild hall, the Element Four and Gajeel gone. This gives Fairy Tail an advantage over the dark guild, but it turns out that was a simple distraction. Juvia Lockser and Sol of the Element Four render Lucy unconscious as she walks the streets of Magnolia, kidnapping her and taking her Celestial Keys.

Meanwhile, the fight between Fairy Tail and Phantom Lord is still raging. That is until Aria of the Element Four robbs Master Makarov of his magic power with his Metsu Spell. Fairy Tail is forced to retreat while Natsu discovers that Lucy has been captured at Phantom Lord’s headquarters. As he heads in that direction, Master Jose of Phantom Lord tells Lucy that her kidnapping was demanded by her own father. After discovering this, Lucy jumps out of her high story cell, knowing Natsu would catch her.

When Lucy arrives back at the Fairy Tail guild, she sees that the Fairy Tail members are exhausted and wounded, and she feels guilty knowing that the reason they’re suffering is because of her. After Laxus refuses to help the guild, Master Jose physically moves the Phantom Lord guild hall to fire a Jupiter Cannon on the Fairy Tail guild hall. Erza blocks the first blast with her Adamantine Armor, but is seriously injured. The next blast would be fired in fifteen minutes, and Erza isn't equipped to protect them from the next one. Lucy tries to stop them, but Mirajane puts her to sleep and puts her in the care of Reedus so that she can take Lucy’s place.

After Natsu and Gray defeat Totomaru, Mirajane’s disguise as Lucy fails when she senses Elfman in danger, and both siblings are forced to fight together against the robot threatening to kill Elfman and Mirajane. While the Elite Four are being destroyed by Gray, Erza, and Natsu, the mysterious Mystogan heals Master Makarov so that he could regain his magic power. After regaining his strength, Makarov uses the Fairy Tail specific spell, Fairy Law, taking out all of Phantom Lord.

Natsu and Gajeel talk about their dragons before Gajeel leaves, swearing revenge. After this, Lucy returns home to her father to tell him that she wasn’t coming home and that she never would. She rips off her fancy clothes while elsewhere, Fairy Tail is declared innocent by the Magic Council, Master Jose is stripped of his Wizard Saint title, and Phantom Lord is forever disbanded. Overall, things end on a good note.

Why It’s Great

  • This is the first time ever another Dragon Slayer has been introduced to the show, and from a dark guild no less. Not only is he powerful, but he’s quite the mystery when it comes to his motives and emotions. So if you’re interested in Gajeel Redfox, take a look!
  • This is one of the first moments we get to experience the true power of Erza’s armor, what with her Adamantine Armor taking a full hit from a Jupiter Cannon, this ends up becoming a legend throughout the rest of the series. If you’re interested in seeing that, this arc is where it starts.
  • And finally, if you’re a Lucy fan, we’re finally getting more insight into her past and where she’s from. She’s become stronger too, and more independent. If you’ve been waiting for this moment from your favorite celestial wizard, here it is!

5. Edolas Arc
Image
Body Image

With Wendy Marvell a part of Fairy Tail and Gildarts gone, the entirety of Magnolia, along with the rest of Fairy Tail, is sucked into a portal taking them to an alternate universe. Not only does this happen, but Carla reveals that all Exceeds such as her and Happy were given a special mission, but that Carla ignored it and Happy forgot. Only Natsu, Wendy, Happy, and Carla remain, and traveling to the alternate world seems to be the only way to save their friends. However, when they arrive, things are definitely different than back home.

Once they get there, they realize they’re in Edolas, and that the Edolas Fairy Tail is drastically different than their own. Everyone’s personality seems to have been switched. Not only that, but in this world, Fairy Tail is considered a Dark Guild. Along with that, there is the infamous Fairy Hunter who consistently hunts them, and her name is Erza Knightwalker, Erza Scarlet’s alternative personality. The minute Earth Land Fairy Tail arrives, Erza is on her way to find them, meaning that they have to transport their entire guild hall to another location. Unfortunately, they don’t have enough magic to make another jump, and that one might have been their last.

Natsu and the others quickly realize that in Edolas, magic is in short supply, and that they need to find other alternatives to defend themselves. Edolas Lucy takes them to the magic black market. When Wendy accidentally uses her magic item to dispel some guards, the others run into Lucy from Earth Land. They soon discover only Lucy can use her magic, as Celestial Spirits come from the Spirit World and aren’t bound by regular magical rules. Edolas Lucy decides to abandon them and head back to the guild so she can persuade the other guild members to help them. The next morning while wandering around, they spot a Royal Army airship, and decide to hijack it so they can make it to the Royal City. But when Lucy tries to summon Loke, Virgo appears instead and their plan hits a major problem. However, they are saved by none other than Edolas Natsu. When they stop they are surprised to learn that Edolas Natsu has driven them all the way to the Royal City, when the group enters the city, they are surprised to see that Magic isn't outlawed in this town and are shocked when they see a giant Lacrima. They learn that the people at the Royal City claim it to be given to them by some kind of god.

Knowing that their friends are trapped inside the Lacrima crystal, they try to find a way to release them, realizing that the King might know a way to undo the spell. Also, Carla starts having visions about the kingdom and some secret routes that they can use, so they decide to infiltrate the palace. However, they are ambushed and captured by Edolas Erza. Happy and Carla try to get them to stop, and Erza thanks them for their mission, shocking them since Carla thought their mission had something to do with the Earth Land.

After Natsu and Wendy are captured, they try to get some answers but have only learned that Lucy will be executed. Happy and Carla then wake up in a room to meet up with Nadi and Nichiya, who congratulate them too. Shortly after, they learn that originally Queen Shagotte was supposed to send them to Earth Land when they were still in their eggs, ordered them to kill the Dragon Slayers, but then the queen decided to change their mission at the last minute to capturing the Dragon Slayers. However, they had no way to reach them and tell them about the change, so when Carla and Happy brought Natsu and Wendy to Edolas, they unintentionally carried out their mission.

Carla then breaks down because she led her friends to a trap and failed to protect Wendy. But Happy stands up for Carla by saying that they aren't Edolas' puppets, but members of Fairy Tail. They escape and try to save their friends on their own, being labelled as "Fallen.”

Back at the Royal Capital, the army captain and Faust learn that the humans of Earth Land can store Magic inside their bodies just like the Exceeds.

As a barefoot Lucy recalls the dialogue between the Exceed Queen and the humans, Erza Knightwalker walks in and is mistaken for Erza Scarlet, with Lucy trying to ask for help but the latter just drags her out of the cell, intending to push her from the palace and kill her. Lucy learns that this Erza is an enemy who enjoys hunting Fairy Tail Mages, and just as she gets pushed off, Happy and Carla arrive just in time to catch her.

Edolas, Earth Land, and the Exceeds fight to control the magic of Edolas. At the end, there’s only enough magic power to send the Earth Landers home, and Mystogan, King Faust’s son, says that he’s ready to lead Edolas without magic and can do it just fine. When they arrive home, they discover that one of the Exceed’s, Pantherlily, has followed them to become Gajeel’s Exceed. Family is reunited, long lost Strauss sister Lisanna has returned, and all is well

Why It’s Great

  • Have you been looking for an alternate universe arc for some time, perhaps with new personalities? Look no further, because here is Edolas, a completely different world with a completely, cool style. It’s exactly what you’re looking for!
  • Ever wonder where Exceeds come from? Well, you’re about to find out. This arc explores the origins of the Exceeds and how they function, meaning that you’ll be able to truly get a good look at their pasts.
  • And finally, if you’re looking for a complicated storyline, the Edolas arc takes the cake. It can be confusing and convoluted at times, but if you’re into detective work, this arc is most definitely for you!

4. Tartaros Arc
Image
Body Image

At the Magic Council Headquarters, the Council discusses Fairy Tail’s victory at the Grand Magic Games, but the topic is changed quickly. They start to discuss Tartaros, saying that any sort of guild associated with them has been destroyed. They claim that Tartaros is an independent guild when Fairy Tail is brought into question. However, they don’t have time to discuss this, as an explosion destroys the building completely. Everyone is killed but Doranbolt and Org, and they discover that the demon Jackal, of the Nine Demon Gates, is responsible. Before Org dies, he tells Doranbolt to escape.

Meanwhile, at Fairy Tail, it’s business as usual, until Levy starts to read a book discussing Zeref’s demons with the other mages, knowing that E.N.D. is his strongest. They wonder where the book of demons is, and it’s suggested that Tartaros has it. Natsu and Gajeel suggest attacking them, while Lucy disagrees. But Natsu says that Igneel wanted to destroy E.N.D. and Natsu says that if he goes, he might find a clue. Suddenly, Jet and Droy return with horrific news, this news concerning the Magic Council headquarters being destroyed.

Meanwhile, what’s composed of the Nine Demon Gates has gathered Kyôka and Silver seem to be the leaders, while Jackal and Tempester are barred from being there. They are officially ready to wreak havoc on the world. After they cause a brutal attack on a peaceful town, where some Fairy Tail guild members were residing, Natsu suggests Fairy Tail go to war. But Makarov and Erza both agree that they don’t have enough information to do that, deciding the only thing they can do is stake out where what’s left of the Magic Council is hiding. At this point, Fairy Tail splits into several groups to protect them.

Natsu, Lucy, and Wendy are charged with guarding Michello, a council member who is anything but happy to see them. Suddenly, the house they are staying at is blown to pieces, and it is revealed that Jackal, one of the Nine Demons, is responsible. The only reason no one was killed was because of Natsu. It turns out that Jackal and the others don’t necessarily use magic but curses, a step above magic, and suddenly the battle is quite deadly. The only way they managed to win was when Jackal launched himself into the sky and blew himself up.

Back at the guild, Makarov is gaining information about how Fairy Tail and the Council members are doing, none of said information being positive. The Demons are proving to be difficult to defeat. In reaction to this, the Oración Seis has escaped prison to join the fight with Cobra at the helm and Midnight’s approval. But it seems as though regardless of what they do, nothing is working. Jellal is mortally wounded, Erza is captured and tortured, and Natsu was imprisoned. The fight seems to be never ending.

Luckily, this is Fairy Tail, and Fairy Tail never gives in. It was a hard fought war, but Fairy Tail came out the victor with the help of other guilds and allies. In the end, Erza takes a much needed break, Jellal leaves with Oración Seis, Sabertooth is reunited, and Natsu leaves for a year to discover himself.

Why It’s Great

  • Looking for a new art style? Well here you go! The Tartaros arc is where Fairy Tail’s art style began to change, becoming dark and sharper. It definitely gives off an edgier flare, perfect for the new tones.
  • This is the first arc where Fairy Tail really starts to get dark, and the themes are a bit more mature and disturbing. If you’re looking for anything more along those lines, this is for you!
  • If you’ve been looking for some type of power outside of magic, check this arc out! The Nine Demons operate on curses, some that are more powerful than magic, so definitely take a look.

3. Oracion Seis Arc

Image
Body Image

Ultear, from the former Magic Council, is proved to be alive and a member of Grimoire Heart, informing Master Hades of the Oración Seis of the situation. Soon, Fairy Tail learns of the powerful Balam Alliance and their plans to destroy it, specifically the Oración Seis branch. Team Natsu heads out to ally themselves with Blue Pegasus, Lamia Scale, and Cait Shelter. While Blue Pegasus, Lamia Scale, and Fairy Tail bring all of their strongest wizards, Cait Shelter sends one; the small, Sky Dragon Slayer Wendy.

With everyone there, they learn about how the Oración Seis is searching for a source of magic power called “Nirvana.” However, before a true plan can be formed, each guild subsequently runs off on their own with other ideas. Unfortunately, Gemini, one of Angel’s Celestial Spirits, managed to infiltrate the group and now know of their plans. While searching from the base, the allies plan to use Christina, Blue Pegasus’ giant airship, to ambush the enemy. However, Christina was destroyed instead by the enemy.

During a fight, Erza is poisoned by Cobra’s snake, putting her out of commission until Wendy reveals her powers as a Sky Dragon Slayer and heals her. After much running around and other distractions, it is revealed that Jellal is being kept inside a magic coffin, as he knows where Nirvana truly is. Unfortunately, he is too weak to awaken, giving Brain, the Oración Seis’ leader, an excuse to kidnap Wendy so she will heal him. Unfortunately, when Jellal does awaken, it’s proved that he has no memory whatsoever, and barely knows who he is.

After much running around and fighting between the Oración Seis and the allies, Jellal seems to know enough about himself to make the ultimate sacrifice of his life to destroy Nirvana before it can hurt anyone else. This fails, and nearly causes a disaster for everyone. By now it has been revealed that Nirvana isn’t necessarily magic, it was an ancient city filled with people who wanted to create something like Nirvana itself. However, things went wrong there as well and the city was abandoned.

Suddenly, Nirvana heads towards Wendy’s guild to destroy it with a magical blast, and the allies are now focused on stopping that from happening. It is now discovered that Nirvana has six legs and six lacrima controlling them. If they destroy all six legs at once, Nirvana will be destroyed. Unfortunately, they only have twenty minutes to do this. With Jellal on their side, the allies ultimately succeed.

In the end, Jellal and the Oración Seis were arrested for their crimes, and Cait Shelter disappeared from existence, as they were only ghosts atoning for their sins. With no guild to call home, Wendy then joins Fairy Tail with Natsu and the others.

Why It’s Great

  • Here we get introduced to our third Dragon Slayer, the adorable Wendy. If you’ve heard of her before now and are interested in her storyline and rise to power, the Oración Seis arc is one for you to check out.
  • This arc is one that has the most history around it, and explores the relationship between magic, ghosts, worship, wizardry, and technology. It talks about what goes wrong and what goes right. It’s truly amazing.
  • And finally, it’s a redemption arc for all. While Jellal doesn’t totally know who he is, he knows he’s done wrong and readily atones, letting the alliance win. Hoteye changes sides in the middle as well for his brother, choosing to fight for good instead of money.

2. Grand Magic Games Arc

Image
Body Image

Since Fairy Tail has returned from being trapped on Tenrou Island, they learn that they have now been dubbed the worst guild in Fiore, a guild called Sabertooth taking their place. Everyone is embarrassed and ashamed, but Natsu is convinced that they can make their ultimate comeback. After Gildarts declining the fifth guild master position, Natsu struggling to beat Max, and Porlyusica refusing to help them, Fairy Tail starts to lose hope. However, Romeo has an idea.

Fairy Tail should participate in the Grand Magic Games, a competition created in the last seven years to see who is the strongest guild in Fiore. The prize is the title of the strongest guild and a huge monetary prize. There is an argument about whether or not they should enter, yet it is ultimately decided they will. After much needed training, the introduction of Crime Sorcière, and an almost kiss between Jellal and Erza, the preliminaries begin.

Makarov has chosen Erza, Gray, Natsu, Wendy, and Lucy as his main team, as the other members of Fairy Tail have backed out. And during the night, Wendy is so weakened by an unknown force that Elfman takes her place. But just as the preliminaries begin, a strange spirit appears that only Fairy Tail can see; its Mavis, Fairy Tail’s first master and it’s most skilled tactician. As the guild’s are arriving, it’s suddenly revealed that Fairy Tail has a Team B in order to give themselves a better chance of winning, Team B being Laxus, Mirajane, Juvia, Gajeel, and Mystogan.

On the very first day, Fairy Tail suffers a humiliating defeat while questioning the morals and tactics of a guild called Raven Tail. But not to fret, Fairy Tail’s answer to this dilemma is to party all night and be better in the morning. This succeeds, as Day Two is much better for Fairy Tail. While the night of the second day was fraught with tension and fighting from Sabertooth, Fairy Tail takes ultimate victory on the third day after Erza takes down Pandemonium all on her own.

Overall, while a bit controversial and cruel concerning some of the other guilds’ dirty tactics, Fairy Tail won, putting them back on top. However, this isn’t over. Mavis arrives shortly after and greets the Dark Mage, Zeref. Zeref tells Mavis that though he cannot see or hear her, he knows she is there. Zeref states that what humans are doing is not truly living and that "humans" are already dead. He tells her that if the world rejects him, he will annihilate it and kill everyone. Mavis in turn tells Zeref that Fairy Tail will stop him, leading to the next arc.

Why It’s Great

  • Looking for the comeback of your favorite guild? Look no further! Fairy Tail has been stuck on an island with no training for seven years, and the wild comeback they made just by entering a competition is great to watch.
  • If you’ve been waiting for that favorite character to come on screen or grow into their power, this arc is perfect. This happens to many characters several times over, and is great to watch when it’s your favorite.
  • And where would we be without a little emotional scandal? Jellal and Erza? Juvia, Gray, and Lyon? Need I say more? You’ll find your favorite ship here.

Top Fairy Tail Arc: Tenrou Island Arc
Image
Body Image

With the whole Edolas ordeal finally over, Lisanna returns to the Guild with her friends and siblings, where the other members greet her warmly and happily. This celebration, however, quickly turns into a brawl when Gajeel tries to get the Exceeds to fight one another, but accidentally starts one between the members instead.

At the newly established Magic Council, the new members voice their complaints about the recent issues regarding Fairy Tail. Despite Org's arguments being in their favor, the new head of the council, Gran Doma, announces that they will forcefully disband Fairy Tail if they cause trouble once more. Meanwhile, it’s time for the S Class Trials to begin for Fairy Tail on Tenrou Island. Natsu, Gray, Juvia, Elfman, Cana, Freed, Levy, and Mest. Makarov continues to explain that only one of those eight will become an S-Class Mage, and that each participant needs to have a partner that isn't an S-Class Mage already.

However, the Seven Kin of Purgatory and Grimoire Heart have other plans. Their ultimate goal is to find Zeref and bring him back, and Fairy Tail is just in the way. The Seven Kin spread out among the island to defeat Fairy Tail and find Zeref immediately. It seemed to be going okay until Azuma cut down the Tenrou Tree, leaving Fairy Tail defenseless. It was only Erza’s strength in battle that helped them regain that power to save the island.

Despite Grimoire Heart worshiping him and attempting to revive him, Zeref has no patience for the dark guild and ignores them in favor of attempting to destroy parts of the island, inviting Acnologia to the scene. As Aconologia prepares to fire, the guild joins hands, as if they know what will happen. When Acnologia is done, the island and the Dark Dragon itself have disappeared, leaving Fairy Tail trapped in nothingness for seven years.

Why It’s Great

  • Fairy Tail is one big family; always has been, always will be. If you’re looking for those types of interactions, this arc is the best for you. Disaster is consistently imminent here, but Fairy Tail faces it together.
  • Finally, if you’ve been wanting to side characters such as Juvia and Cana come into their true power, now’s your chance! You get to experience their emotions behind their actions and watch them fight in such amazing ways while you do.
