3. The Human Sentry

Have you ever played engineer and thought to yourself “Man, I wish I could play as my sentry gun?”. Well, this is as close as it gets. The Brass Beast all but locks you in place while spun up, in exchange for dealing more damage and giving you damage resistance after falling below half your HP. That might sound impractical, which it is, but it also turns you into a defensive brick wall that nothing can get past! The Dalokohs Bar makes your resistance even stronger by adding an extra 50 points to your max health, and the Gloves of Running Urgently make you run faster while they’re equipped, mitigating some of the Brass Beast’s downsides

The Brass Beast raises both Heavy’s strengths and weaknesses to an absurd degree. Heavy deals lots of damage and can tank lots of hits, but moves and fires his gun slowly, and the Brass Beast makes you deal more damage, tank more hits, and slows you down to a crawl. Positioning is by far the most important thing while using this loadout, because you absolutely must be in a good spot when your gun is active, but once you’re somewhere with good cover and a vantage point, you suddenly have a massive advantage! The Dalokohs Bar heals you by 100 points and buffs your max HP by 50, which boosts the resistance you get from the Brass Beast. Normally it’ll help you take one more shot than you usually can, but with the buff that resistance kicks in sooner and makes you even tankier. The Gloves of Running Urgently benefit from that extra HP too, the downside of their extra speed is that they drain your health while you’re running, but when you use them with the Dalokohs Bar you can move over to a good spot faster without dropping below 300 HP. This loadout is very risky, and carries some heavy downsides, but when your opponents have no choice but to fight you head on they don’t stand a chance

Loadout Details

  • The Brass Beast
  • The Dalokohs Bar
  • Gloves of Running Urgently
What The Human Sentry excels in
  • Defending the capture point, with the Brass Beast’s extra damage and resistance giving you the extra power you need to hold down an area
  • Becoming an even tankier Heavy, with the Dalokohs bar giving you an extra 50 HP and the Brass Beast giving you a 20% damage resistance after falling below half health
  • Getting to the action faster, the Gloves of Running Urgently make up for your primary’s slow speed by making you run while they’re equipped
  • The Brass Beast works best on defense, and in closed corridors where your enemies don’t have much room to dodge your bullets. Your enemies should be coming to you, not the other way around
  • Heavy is already a Tank, and this loadout specializes him into an even stronger Tank, taking his already high damage and large health pool one step further

2. The Soviet Strongman

Heavy is a very powerful class, being able to rip and tear through entire teams, and that incredible power is balanced by his slow speed. However, with certain items you can make Heavy attack faster without sacrificing much damage, making him even stronger! The Tomislav is a minigun that takes less time to rev up before firing, and if that short amount of time is too much for the enemy charging at you, you also have your trusty shotgun by your side, and a melee that helps you keep that killstreak going!

The Tomislav revs up faster than all of your other miniguns, and fires slower but is more accurate, meaning that it technically has a lower dps, but can deal more damage to single targets and has a longer effective range. It also revs up silently, which can catch an enemy off guard. Even if it doesn’t take as long to start firing, The Tomislav still needs to take time to rev up, and that’s where the shotgun comes in. It covers that weakness by giving Heavy instantaneous damage, and is a better option in close range fights. The Killing Gloves of Boxing doesn’t have any passive buffs like the other melee weapons on this list, instead it gives you guaranteed crits for 5 seconds after killing an enemy. They carry over to other weapons, so you can kill someone with your melee and quickly switch to your other weapons for a powerful shot! With these weapons equipped, you can play Heavy much more aggressively and keep up with the fast pace of TF2’s combat!

Loadout Details

  • Tomislav
  • The Shotgun
  • The Killing Gloves of Boxing

What The Soviet Strongman excels in

  • Playing Heavy aggressively, with the Tomislav and Shotgun being able to put out damage faster than any of Heavy’s other guns
  • The Tomislav’s accuracy makes it better at tracking down single targets than firing into a crowd of enemies, and also gives it a longer effective range
  • The Shotgun allows Heavy to deal damage without slowing down or taking time to spin up his gun, which can take out sudden threats and soften up enemies before you fire the Tomislav
  • The Killing Gloves of Boxing give you critical hits for a short time after killing an enemy, so you can follow up melee kills with a critical shotgun blast to other nearby enemies, or snipe someone far away with critical burst of fire
  • Instead of being your team’s front line of defense, this loadout transforms Heavy into a powerful fighter that plays more offensively and can chase after enemies instead of waiting for them to come to him

1. The Partisan Protector

No matter what tools Heavy has in his back pocket, his greatest support will always come from his team, and this loadout is the best for protecting them from enemy threats. The Sandvich is essentially a spare health pack, but you’ll be using it more to heal your teammates more often than to heal yourself. Instead, The Firsts of Steel are what’s going to be saving your life by protecting you from enemy gunfire, and the Minigun will protect your team in return

Your primary weapon, the Minigun, needs no introduction. It’s Heavy’s default gun, and like most other stock weapons in TF2, it’s the best tool for the job in most situations. In this case, that job is mowing down opponents before they can get to the rest of your team. Compared to the two other primaries on the list, it finds itself at a sweet spot of damage and mobility. The Sandvich can either be eaten to fully recover your HP, or given to a teammate as a medium health pack. It can definitely be useful in a pinch, but you’ll be giving out a lot of sandwiches, which your team will appreciate. Lastly, when The Fists of Steel are equipped they cut down the damage you take from ranged sources by nearly half! That’s protection from basically every type of damage in the game, except for melee and status effects, but that doesn’t matter when you’re protected from everything else the enemy team can throw at you. Heavy is a class that relies on his team’s support, and when you put all these items together you get a Heavy who can support his team as much as they support him

Loadout Details

  • Minigun
  • The Sandvich
  • The Fists of Steel

What The Partisan Protector excels in

  • Supporting and defending your teammates, with the Minigun being Heavy’s most reliable damage dealer and the Sandvich being a consistent source of healing
  • The Minigun is Heavy’s most balanced primary, spinning up faster than the Brass Beast and having a higher DPS than the Tomislav, without any of the gimmicks his other options have. It’s powerful, versatile, and dependable in any situation
  • The Sandvich can and will save both your life and your teammate’s lives, having a spare health pack is very useful for surviving longer and supporting your team
  • The Fists of Steel reduce damage from ranged sources by 40%, allowing you to cross the battleground unharmed
  • Having a secondary that can fully heal you and a melee that defends you from literally any kind of gunfire makes this loadout the best option for survivability, which in turn means you’ll be there more often to protect your team, and you can fall back safely after making plays that would otherwise kill you
