Final Fantasy 10 battle system and vast set of characters allow the players to establish different party compositions for each enemy.

During your journey through Spira, you will encounter distinguishable bosses and enemies along the way, making you adapt to each one. In simpler terms, Wakka is essential for flying enemies, Tidus for faster enemies, Auron and Kimahri for bulky enemies, Lulu for elemental enemies, and Rikku and Yuna are more targeted toward difficult bosses.

However, their abilities expand beyond these basic concepts, so you need a strategy for the more challenging bosses. Mixing their traits to enhance each one's potential makes the battles easier and more fun!

In this article, we'll rank the best party composition in Final Fantasy 10 and prioritize the best trios that make enemies shiver with fear. Each trio will have different purposes for enemies, and we'll rank them on utility, strength, cohesion, and consistency throughout the story.

5. Lulu, Yuna, and Tidus

Yuna and Lulu overpower any enemy with their Magical prowess, while Tidus supports them both with his time abilities.

Lulu and Yuna work fantastically together against stronger elemental enemies because their Sphere Grid will allow them to learn powerful black magic and will always be side by side in the Sphere Grid.

Yuna and Lulu will likely have the strongest black magic by the journey's end.

Plus, their Magic Defense will always be the strongest on the party, allowing them to tank the enemy's attack better despite having a lower HP pool than Auron, for example.

Tidus fulfills the role of support to both ladies due to his time abilities and high-speed stats. Tidus often attacks first, allowing him to cast Haste/Hastega from the get-go.

Lulu, Yuna, and Tidus strengths:

  • Yuna and Lulu’s powerful black magic;
  • Tidus often attacks first due to his speed;
  • Tidus’ time abilities to increase the number of turns for Yuna and Lulu;
  • Lulu and Yuna healing abilities depending on their Sphere Grid.

How Lulu, Yuna, and Tidus work:

  • Cast Haste/Hastega with Tidus to allow both Lulu and Yuna to cast more spells;
  • Cast Focus with Lulu to buff the party’s magic defense and magic;
  • Cast black magic with Yuna and Lulu to exploit the enemy’s weakness;
  • Cast healing spells with Yuna if needed;
  • Use your Aeons Overdrives to deplete the bosses’ HP.

As an alternative, you can bring Auron to the party and switch him out with Tidus and start using Mental Break to debuff the enemy’s magic defense if it’s not immune.

4. Auron, Lulu, and Tidus

The added versatility this trio brings helps fighting more distinct enemies. You have it all with Auron, Lulu, and Tidus.

Bringing Auron instead of Yuna works offensively against enemies that aren’t strictly elemental but possess elemental weaknesses. This party composition brings more versatility against enemies with more distinguishable characteristics.

Auron is essential to make this party work for different reasons: he can protect Lulu, debuff the enemies, and deal physical damage to the enemies while having massive HP stats.

Tidus and Lulu’s purpose remains the same as the previous party composition. This one ranks higher because it can provide more adaptability to face enemies despite lacking  healing abilities and Yuna’s Aeons.

Auron, Lulu, and Tidus strengths:

  • Auron and Tidus’ damage output;
  • Lulu buffs the party with Reflex or Focus;
  • Lulu’s black magic exploit weaknesses from the enemies;
  • Tidus’ time abilities to increase the number of turns for Auron and Lulu;
  • Auron’s ability to defend the party from physical attacks with Guard/Sentinel.

How Auron, Lulu, and Tidus work:

  • Cast Haste/Hastega with Tidus to allow the party to have more turns;
  • Cast Focus with Lulu depending on the enemy;
  • Use Mental Break with Auron to enable Lulu to deal more damage;
  • Cast Bio with Lulu if the enemy is bulky and isn’t immune to poison;
  • Cast Demi with Lulu if the enemy has a huge HP pool;
  • Use Guard/Sentinel to protect Lulu if the enemy is a physical damage dealer;
  • Attack with both Tidus and Auron to deplete the enemy’s HP.

There are better party compositions than Auron, Lulu, and Tidus, but throughout Spira, you will find this trio consistent and complementing itself perfectly.

3. Auron, Wakka, and Tidus

Physical attackers reign supreme in Final Fantasy 10, and there's no better party composition than Wakka, Tidus, and Auron to output a ridiculous amount of damage.

This trio's damage output and utility make it rank this high on the list. In Final Fantasy 10, physicality outclasses magic, so having a party composed of three damage dealers is always a great idea.

Each provides different abilities that power up this party’s versatility, from Tidus’ time abilities to Wakka’s negative effects on enemies to Auron’s debuffing.

Also, they cover most enemies: the flying, fast, and bulky types, with Wakka’s accuracy, Tidus’ speed, and Auron’s piercing ability.

Auron, Wakka, and Tidus strengths:

  • Tidus often gets first strike, allowing you to set the battle;
  • Tidus’ time abilities to increase the number of turns for Auron and Wakka;
  • Wakka can inflict Dark, Silence, or Sleep if the enemy isn’t immune;
  • Auron has Armor Break, which depletes the enemy’s defense to 0;
  • Auron, Wakka, and Tidus output immense amounts of damage.

How Auron, Wakka, and Tidus work:

  • Cast Haste/Hastega with Tidus to allow the party to have more turns;
  • Use Armor Break with Auron to deplete the enemy’s defense;
  • Use Wakka’s Attack Reels after debuffing the enemy’s defense;
  • Use Wakka’s Sleep/Silence/Dark Buster/Attack if the enemy isn’t immune;
  • Use Auron’s Entrust to Wakka, and use Attack Reels again;
  • Flurry the enemy with attacks from all members of the party.

2. Rikku, Tidus, and Wakka

Rikku brings the team together, allowing Tidus and Wakka to deplete any boss's HP pool with their Overdrives.

Rikku finally shows up in this ranking, and, spoiler alert, it won't be the last time. Besides Yuna's Aeons Overdrives and ability to withstand attacks to protect the remaining party members, Rikku's Mix stands as the most significant utility to extract all the potential of other characters.

She can do it all: protect the party and allow each member to output outrageous damage.

Tidus and Wakka are great partners for her due to their Overdrives, Attacks Reels, and Blitz Ace. So, the tactic in this situation is simple and will deplete many bosses' HP in a burst.

Rikku, Tidus, and Wakka strengths:

  • Rikku grants the whole team different status effects with her Overdrive;
  • Rikku allows the team to deal 9999 with every attack performed in one turn;
  • Rikku heals the party and can even outgrow the HP limit for each one;
  • Wakka’s devastating Overdrive, Attack Reels;
  • Tidus often gets first strike, allowing you to set the battle;
  • Tidus’ strong Overdrive, Blitz Ace.

How Rikku, Tidus, and Wakka work:

  • Make sure to have all the Overdrives filled up;
  • Cast Haste/Hastega with Tidus to allow the party to have more turns;
  • Use Rikku’s Mix to create a Trio of 9999;
  • Use both Wakka and Tidus Overdrives (Attack Reels and Blitz Ace);
  • Use a different Mix if you want a more defensive approach, like Super Mighty G or Hyper Vitality.

Rikku is unique because she relies on powerful and obscure items to make it work. However, if you have those items, using this strategy will allow you to destroy most bosses.

1. Rikku, Auron, and Wakka

Auron allows Wakka and Rikku to reach their full potential with his utility abilities while they wreak havoc on anyone standing in front of them with their Overdrives.

Yes, Rikku reigns supreme in party composition because she outclasses everyone around her. Switching up Tidus for Auron has only one purpose: to provide more Overdrives for Rikku or Wakka, depending on your preference.

Due to Auron's straightforward purpose of damage and bulkiness, some of his abilities, such as Entrust, become underrated.

For some challenging bosses, you must be creative to find ways to deplete their HP as soon as possible because some attacks will erase your team in the blink of an eye. There's almost nothing better than Wakka and Rikku's Overdrives to accomplish it.

Rikku, Auron, and Wakka strengths:

  • Wakka’s devastating Overdrive, Attack Reels;
  • Auron’s supporting ability Entrust;
  • Rikku grants the whole team different status effects with her Overdrive;
  • Rikku allows the team to deal 9999 with every attack performed in one turn;
  • Rikku heals the party and can even outgrow the HP limit for each one;
  • Auron’s defensive prowess and ability to protect Rikku’s weaknesses;
  • Auron’s damage output.

How Rikku, Auron, and Wakka work:

  • Make sure to have all the Overdrives filled up;
  • Use Rikku’s Mix to create a Trio of 9999;
  • Use both Wakka’s Overdrive, Attack Reels;
  • Transfer your Overdrive gauge to Rikku or Wakka with Auron’s Entrust;
  • Use Rikku’s Overdrive again (you can choose a different Mix this time);
  • Use Wakka’s Attack Reels again.

There are many ways to exploit Auron’s Entrust to maximize Rikku’s potential. One of the best ways is to switch Wakka for Tidus after using Attack Reels. Use the Trio of 9999 again with Rikku and use Tidus’ Blitz Ace.

Ranking party compositions in Final Fantasy 10 is tricky because you can easily switch different characters to maximize everyone. However, knowing different strategies for the best trios in the game will allow you to thrive.

Yuna's lack of presence in this ranking might seem confusing because she is one of the best characters in the game. Still, she relies on her Aeons to maximize her potential, and ultimately, she fights alone in those circumstances.

On the other hand, Kimahri didn't make the ranking due to his lack of special abilities to complement other characters. He is a great backup healer, mage, or physical attacker but hardly a predominant starting member.

The ranking shows how important Rikku and Wakka's Overdrives are, how Tidus' time abilities allow you to set up each battle, how Auron provides more than damage, and how Lulu can be explosive in the suitable party composition even later in the game.
