Far Cry 6 - Story Outline

On the picturesque Caribbean island of Yara, a revolution is swelling. Brutality and terror are lockedwithin the vice-like grip of the much feared and unforgiving dictator “El Presidenté” Antón Castillo. Dani Rojas, desperate and near breaking point from living under the boot of this regime for too long, joins the Libertad as they provide an undying resistance to try and finally free their homeland and restore a way of life fitting of its beautiful surroundings. Guerrilla warfare is a necessary solution in the fight for the freedom of a nation, but who says you can’t do that in style? A wheelchair bound sausage dog amigo named Chorizo, homemade heavy explosives strapped to your back and “Death by Macarena” (yes, you read that correctly) are only a few of the many unique methods available to try and defeat this savage leader and the government he has installed over his decades of power.

Far Cry 6 - Release Date

October 7th 2021 is the date to look out for as the much anticipated new release from Ubisoft’s Far Cry franchise comes to Playstation 4 and 5, Xbox series X, series S and Xbox One, along with Google Stadia, Amazon Luna and Windows. The latest title was first teased in early July 2020 and officially announced later that same month by Ubisoft, after already being in production for the previous 4 years. Initially, the release date was supposed to be February 2021 but thanks to the unmentionable “world on pause” event we’ve all lived through for a wee while now, that date was pushed back to October the same year.

Far Cry 6 - Gameplay

For fans of the Far Cry franchise, we have the familiar First Person Shooter experience we’ve come to expect from these titles but with an added new feature of seeing your character come to life in the third person. This is sure to bring an added dimension to an already solid platform and we see some examples of this in the most recent gameplay trailer released by Ubisoft (below). Join the Libertad and become the resistance as you, Dani Rojas, help provide the Guerrilla warfare needed to end the tyranny of Antón Castillo and his generations of power.

Play the campaign as Dani Rojas as they go from a citizen of Yara, living under the boot of a dictator determined to live out his idea of the perfect nation no matter the cost, to a guerrilla warrior fighting alongside the Libertad to provide an endless and unrelenting resistance to Antón Castillo (played by the fantastically menacing Giancarlo Esposito) and his authoritarian regime. For the first time in the history of the Far Cry series, we can play as either a female or male protagonist (Dani Rojas) along with completely customisable outfits that each provide their own individual perks for every possible situation in what is Far Cry’s biggest ever open world map, which is sure to provide countless hours of replayable gametime. Also for the first time in the Far Cry series, we have a heavily populated urban centre in the shape of Yara’s capital city - Esperanza, filled with scaleable buildings, classic cars and...well...lots and lots of heavily armed soldiers and reinforced tanks to put off any wannabe revolutionaries.

This all compliments the comfortably familiar feel that Far Cry fans have come to know and love over the span of the previous 5 titles. We have all new companions in the form of “amigos” who are guaranteed to have players hooked from the get go, as long as you’re a fan of explosive carrying sausage dogs, spiked collar wearing roosters or a pet croc with a snazzy dress sense and a gold tooth? What am I even saying, of course you are! Players can also enjoy Far Cry’s largest EVER selection of craftable and customisable weapons, along with old title favourites (looking at you compound bow!), so if it’s throwable, fireable, or goes BOOM then Far Cry 6 has you covered.

Far Cry 6 - Trailers

In the world premiere trailer (above) released in July 2020, we are introduced to our games main villain, Antón Castillo, and his son Diego. Antón is in the midst of giving his son a life lesson, by way of a live grenade and a rousing speech as riots are in full flow at street level, giving us a glimpse into the mind and methods of the unforgiving dictator and the expectations he demands from his son.

Ubisoft also gave us a Dani Rojas story trailer, in which, we see that Dani is an orphan and has spent time in the military before deciding to join the Libertad after seeing the dictators brutality firsthand, becoming a guerrilla fighter to free their homeland from continuing to be suffocated under Antón Castillo’s rule.

And finally, we talk about the gameplay trailer itself in all its glory! First off, we are back to exploring in a tropical island style setting and we see Dani’s first encounter with Juan Cortez - a guerrilla master and architect of all things chaos, he will be the games main provider of weaponry and judging by the gameplay trailer, he’s hand-built quite the impressive array of war machines guaranteed to pack a punch. We also see another first to the Far Cry series with the introduction of a new “stealth” option, allowing players to holster their weapons and roam undetected, which will be a great addition for gamers that prefer a more saboteur style approach rather than all guns/explosives/pet crocodiles blazing!

Far Cry 6 - Developers

As previously mentioned, the developers for the Far Cry series is renowned games developer Ubisoft (developers of much loved titles such as Assassins Creed, Watch Dogs and the Tom Clancy series). The game was first announced in July 2020 but had been in development for 4 years previously up to that point with Narrative Director Navid Khavari spending a year in Cuba speaking with local residents to gain more in depth knowledge of what it's like to live through a revolution, but he himself also has personal experience in these types of scenarios as his family had to flee to Canada during the Iranian revolution in the late 1970’s. So with all his personal experience and the insight he gained from his time in Cuba, the game is guaranteed to give players an authentic and gritty gaming experience.

Far Cry 6 - News

As if everything I just told you wasn’t enough to satisfy the revolutionary inside of you, we also have the announcement of a new DLC pack available when you purchase the season pass. This allows us to play as the infamous past villains of the series - Vaas Montenegro, Pagan Min and Jacob Seed, the thought of which is enough to wet the appetite of every longtime Far Cry fan along with adding a unique new dimension for gamers that are new to the title. Not only that, but we also have the return of fan favourite DLC Far Cry Blood Dragon, so what’s not to love? By the way, have I ever told you the definition of insanity?
