Upon completing my five-year master’s degree in English Literature and Creative Writing, I immediately delved into political activism whilst working within an anarchist worker collective that operated a hybrid dive bar and rock/metal music venue. This gave me the perfect opportunity to interview bands and write incisive, professional articles and blog posts about their music on the company’s website. Working within the alternative culture, I happened by many geeks, gamers, anime fans and a vast pool of fringe peoples who sought refuge in the bar from the normal world.
They encouraged me and reminded me that as a professional and experienced writer my true passion lies not only with music, but also with gaming and, specifically, writing about games and the industry which surrounds it. Along with this, I have been gaming since I was a small lad and continue to do just that. My favourite titles include Fallout: New Vegas and Hearts of Iron IV. I mainly love writing about game mechanics and whether this encourages players to develop intuitive gaming practices, or not. Writing about games is never boring; it is my world and excites me like nothing else.
